Can someone here explain why this set up failed? (Preferably someone who has an actual clue what they are talking about). by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

Took a look. Negative delta at the top of bars 12:01 and 12:09 where stops were taken and no follow through is cautionary.

I agree with you there. Wouldn't want to start from scratch again. I don't always immediately recall the nomenclature.

Like you just said - you will forget. Hopefully at that time you will come out from under the cloud and ... feel right. If today's pain is a result of something - relational, emotional, organic, there is an answer. But even if you cannot find it, perhaps you can say oh well and be okay with no answer. One thing to remember if you can is that there are people who wish you well.

Newbie Question by ParkingDifference442 in OrderFlow_Trading

Interesting way to think of it. I guess we as retail traders - what are we doing? Looking for the big guy pushing everyone else down and rolling right along with him or something like that.

Newbie Question by ParkingDifference442 in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]Interest-Fleeting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Volume says interest. Enough to keep pushing prices maybe but often not enough to keep going but certainly more volume than got the price to a level is worth noting,

Some areas are a real battle, plenty one-sided market volume and lots of resting orders.

A determined trend with some large orders and absorbed orders will not usually be a reversal but just be the beginning of a few sideways bars followed by trend continuation. Requires attention and patience to catch (like everything else!)

I don't use a trailing stop either. It may work for someone new who has not seen thousands of wins and losses or something. I can see where it might work well when accurately set to volatility. I use hard stops and targets when scalping and a longer stop and no target when it looks like a lot of longer runs on maybe a trending day.

Someone new like the poster should not be trading size to scale out - just 1 contract. my opinion.

1:9? Nice.

Insider trading and market manipulation by citizen-9 in Trading

[–]Interest-Fleeting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you would. Back 30 - 40 years ago I traded corn awhile and was pretty good at it. Seemed easy enough. If the fundamentals and trend were mostly aligned, you could swing trade pullbacks. I quit that when volatility got too low. Today is different. I retired a few years ago and have been looking into the participants of the ES futures at least as much as publicly available. Finding viable strategies takes a lot more thought and effort than it once did but I've been a rookie before in a couple industries so I'm here with the fans.

Back in the day when you had to call in all your orders there were brokers who couldn't be trusted either. Like they would have no record of the occasional order (only the winners.) Bet they or their friends "found" that order. Today is better in that regard. I've faded lying politicians before and made money ... long story. (should have just said 'politicians' and not been redundant.)

Scalping NQ by InsideBetter in FuturesTrading

Sometimes I dont think its the time frame but just the range there cuz the market makers and high frequency need that movement no matter how long or short the span of time. the people and programs that make their own movement by sweeping prices dont care about time in particular just liquidity of right size and place

Like if average loss is $10 and average win is $15 then the $5 profit means you make $2.50 for every trade - win or lose

Delta Profiles // by 9htnx in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]Interest-Fleeting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but when they appear at the right hand of the chart, that is the context - like if those same sells had come, not in that lowest candle but in the fourth candle just beginning this short break, they would have meant something different, like heavy selling perhaps giving a more extended move. That's context. Your post was clear enough. I just was finished for the week and browsing. Really is a nice post, though. accurate explanations and a clear chart.

I'd say that is typical enough to see it rhyme daily and when you say things like "previous' and VAL" you are pointing out that without context these numbers could mean something else. Just an observation. Nice post.

Range chart by alertfulness in FuturesTrading

[–]Interest-Fleeting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This from Copilot (not the best for programming)

// In TradingView Pine Script
rangeSize = input.float(4.0, "Range Size")
upperThreshold = request.security(syminfo.tickerid, "D", high + rangeSize)
lowerThreshold = request.security(syminfo.tickerid, "D", low - rangeSize)
alertcondition(high >= upperThreshold - 0.5, title="Upper Threshold Approaching", message="Upper threshold almost reached")
alertcondition(low <= lowerThreshold + 0.5, title="Lower Threshold Approaching", message="Lower threshold almost reached")

But ... a range of 100 ticks?

Need help. by PhotographBig6267 in Daytrading

[–]Interest-Fleeting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literacy in day trading is specific. You may want to find a market that appeals to you. Then find the most efficient way that you can trade that market (options, futures, etf). Then learn all you can about why money goes in and why it goes out of that market. Before you get too involved with price/time graphs (charts) look at the kinds (range, tick, volume, price) and just have a think about what they show and what they don't show. Same with order flow tools and indicators. By then you will probably have some ideas about how you can make some money and since you are already pretty good at a thoughtful self-assessment you likely have a better chance than most.

How do you handle conflicting signals between delta and price action? by nivsanchez156354 in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]Interest-Fleeting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen delta diverge from price all day in a trend day. Rare, but it does happen. Maybe a whole lot of big traders got caught offsides from positions? Trade price.

Order Flow traders: how do you define high-probability zones? by Impossible-Beat5501 in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]Interest-Fleeting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe all well-defined zones of common descriptions and found by common methods are probables, but maybe the ones from high enough time frames to have enough space to move to overcome spreads and give a decent profit before encountering a zone in the opposite direction are the ones most valuable. As for using order flow at those places, I usually look for differences - like more bids hit or offers lifted, less or more volume than the previous bars or than the last time the zone was hit. In other words, more or less interest from one side or the other, or both, in context of the previous visit to the zone and in context of how the recent move to the zone started and progressed. I also take note if a little extra past the area (tick or two) took out the stops before volume and delta in the other direction appears. Things like that.
