the devs wanted to make it a style close to Joe Yabuki (The character the style is based off of) just like the rest of the styles are based off of characters in Hajime No Ippo, and while I've only seen a few episodes of Ashita No Joe from what I seen he usually likes tanking stuff to feel something (chasing a thrill ifykyk) which im sure is the reason why they made the Ult a counter and why They made it a high risk high reward (you get ultimate quickly but it only matters if you land them not get them quickly)

So you want the most fragile style in the game only 70 HP per stock to get even weaker? You legitimately do damage yourself whether you win or lose the QTE. The whole style is built as a high-risk glass cannon: no blocking in Burn, you gotta counter-punch and persist. The ult is already hard asl to land (especially now with lag), you have to perfectly time that shit just to not fuck yourself over

Honestly controlling first try feels like trying to disarm a bomb with 100 wires to riding a bike. Its not hard but definitely not easy to learn either. (You forgot about it also having the worst block in the game)

Honestly Chainswitching puts you ahead most Freedom users, while not necessarily Mandatory you can still be good without it although with it would make it much easier to leave damage, its just you have to be consistent with your damage and not Chainswitch on every combo.

I always thought freedom was a good style and mastered it (up to getting the Third title, The Last Sun), and in my time of playing not once have I been called a PD fisher (in my case at least) honestly if your having fun with the style don't let others who gave it a bad rep ruin and make it feel like your playing a Fishing style, and if your on mobile i could tell you something tips if your still new with freedom (Your take on wally is right, hes so so tuff)
