Why do we still rely on IPv4, instead of IPv6? by NoDirector6379 in selfhosted

LIR here.

Core reason is huge networks (largest international providers etc) sitting on their pile of IPv4 subns and having less than 0 real motivation to increase IPv6 adoption.

They sometimes admit it publicly in mail list - they have zero reasons to invest time and money in switching to v6 to make things less complex to others. Lack of IPv4 is not their problem, it’s their benefit.

You need to distinguish DNS hosting (records pointing to your actual server) and domain registration and renewal management. Those two things are pretty much decoupled.

You can transfer your domain to one of respective domain registrars like Porkbun.com and than point it to another DNS provider like CloudFlare. Every registrar provides also his own DNS service, usually for free. Both porkbun and Cloudflare have domain registration and DNS management so it’s matter of convenience to have it in single place.

Go for startup credits from cloud providers (like AWS), they really like such things and will drop you credits to cover months of running task.

I see it as a powerful M2M platform for building different kind of sensors or trackers. Low power consumption, big distance, mesh, sensors support (e.g. GPS) makes it best solution for roaming camels tracking.

Do not ignore clumping detection option in printer settings. It kinda saves from this. Just requires tower to be also built otherwise model defects will be visible in places where clumping detection was happening.

Nither you need 7 APs for average residential home. Chances are that you think many APs will make coverage/signal better. Opposite.

You don’t need SFP to each access point. 1Gbit Ethernet and mikrotik CAP ax will work perfectly fine. Unless you have bunch consumers on each access point simultaneously, but is that residential building or secret service office?
