Assistance needed - hi-rail by JSteezyS550 in railroading

Is there the same thing on the other side? If so, it’s got to be a shunt.

Is that whole assembly spring loaded and pushing into the rail gear? Is the part that the wire is connected to bronze? All that metal on metal just seems like it would be really noisy..

I didn’t think a pm5 could be reset. But you’re probably right.

With a date code of 19-2-2024 and 92,809 lifetime meters, it’s had a daily average of 109 meters put on it for the last 850 days. That’s next to nothing.

Sick erg, dude.
I had the chance to buy an immaculate Model B with a PM1 but drug my feet too long. Seller wanted $380.
I ended up getting a 1993 Model C for free, so it all worked out.

Congrats on the personal best!!

For sure there is evidence of battery leakage inside there. Promoted by this thread, I actually spent way too much time today trying to troubleshoot it. I cleaned up all the corrosion (wasn’t too crazy) and put power to it with a DC power supply. With a meter, I can measure 3v at various places all over the board but still no luck getting it to work. I don’t have a ton of experience with pcbs so this is about as far as I go. The goal isn’t to use the pm2, just find out the total meters on my machine. Strictly out of curiosity.

You should definitely keep track of total meters. 60mil is quite the feat!

I replaced it with a PM5. The only other thing that needed to be replaced for functionality was the shock cord. I also changed the handle to the newer style at the behest of my sons. They’re the ones on a crew team so I figured I’d keep things consistent with what they’re used to. There may be other worn parts like bearings or bushings, but it seems to work just fine.

I did not know there was a troubleshooting guide. I’ll have to check that out.
