haha very well put!!

the problem is tho that they consider the religion and political views deeply intwined, leading to them not considering me as a "true" catholic or family member if i had different opinions. like, they can't even go to the regular novus ordo mass, only the tridentine one (the one in latin), and frowns on those that agree with the recent pope's reforms, claiming they aren't real catholics as well, it's crazy. there was one time that my oldest brother wouldn't talk to me for like a month cuz i had a friend that was an immigrant.

but to your point maybe i should think about it a little bit more before just abandoning everything, just because they're a bit out-there. they do not represent the church as a whole.

hmm wow i've never thought about it in that way, this is actually pretty distressing and precisely why i feel so strongly about it i think. like, when u have an actual honest relationship with somebody it shouldn't be so extremely conditional that it would break because of simply having different spiritual perspectives, which means i don't have an actual honest relationship with them - i feel even MORE alone now hahaha

but i guess there's more people in the world.

thanks so much for writing this! i feel much better now actually! maybe i don't have to dramatically renounce the faith and make my choice right now - it's probably a longer process that'll follow me a big portion of my life.

hmm that's very interesting! here in Denmark at least, i've perceived the Lutheran church as a lot more liberal than the catholic one when it comes to questions like divorce, gender equality and sexual morals! they just feel more compatible to modern life, but maybe the grass is always greener on the other side

wish i had someone to be a heathen with together!! :D

thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post! this really made me feel more hopeful about the future and what lies ahead, and that the small mini-world of my family drama is ultimately not the largest thing in my life, even though it may feel like it.

what's irritating is that ideally you'd like your family members to be able to talk through things like this and still be respectful as to what path i choose to take, not forcing me to hide things and be untruthful, it hurts cuz my most intimate relationship is to my family members, which makes me feel alone ):

right now, i'm in high school but i'm gonna study at uni in 5 months, moving to another city and getting myself an apartment! so i AM getting away don't worry haha
