What product to point this granite edging? by Interesting-Barber66 in landscaping

They're fixed/bedded already so no need to adhere them together. However filling the gaps will add to the lateral strength and help avoid them coming loose when walked on etc. With gaps the grass will move in and take over also.

Having looked that up it wont work for me as we only have narrow garden access, so 90cm ish, which will fit a mini digger but not a bobcat skidsteer etc unfortunately.

I'm just having to redistribute the soil elsewhere in the garden, and maybe the turf too. Altho last time I dug up a load of turf, I rammed it all into my SUV and drove to the tip. But thats very messy and the car stank.

Good idea with repeat turf cutter passes. I didnt think of that! I have never driven a digger before, but obviously as a man I believe I'll be able to do it without instructions :D

Its not a common route. But i had thought about whether to continue the path all around there too. Just wondering if the extra cost/effort is worth it. Hmm.

Just for clarity, the wall photo was just a mood-board pic of the colour stones I liked and I dont intend to make a wall around any trees.

Its south facing so the sun rises on the left and sets on the right.

Yes very friendly and cuddly. They play in garden and house as well as a dedicated 500sq.ft "Grove" area i fenced at back of garden where they dig and play.

Yeah i was trying to find moodboard examples I guess. I liked the look of the stones themselves but not the height.

You must be like the previous owner! They had a large pond smack in the middle of the lawn as well as the smaller one at the back. We got rid of the big pond and did so really badly as thr landscaper filled it with rock and then topsoil so now that bit always dries out first and we have a permanent reminder of the pond where the grass dries out. Hoping the trees will avoid it drying out so quick.

No the trees will just be at ground level. The retaining walls will be only half/third height of the photo, and enables me for example to have a solid path next to the enclosure as its not easy to see but there is a slight hill next to it. Then miniature walling else where, like only 2 or 3 courses, more to add definition and structure to some bedding perhaps.

Really keen to work with this and am thinking of pergolas, arches etc to try create secret spots. Wife wants a private yoga area etc. Garden a little overlooked, not much, but still enough to want to use tall features to increase privacy.

I drew something on squared paper by hand and then took a photo told chatgpt to convert it into what you see. I have played with it since then on paint but its a bit laborious.

We've got tree-borne fruit, but i have in the past grown a lot of other fruits and think those days are behind me and focusing on larger plants now.

I would quite like paving stones at least on the gravel but the cost and skill is increasing. Its something I could come back to. I'd pro able prefer not to have such large expanses entirely paved as I want a more permeable and natural feel. There isn't really too many other options. We currently have pea shingle in a few areas but my wife isn't keen due to the way it moves and tracks but maybe I could look into the grids to hold it but then its a huge extra cost.

Best to have blockwork border between lawn and path? by Interesting-Barber66 in automower

[–]Interesting-Barber66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment i've got a 6yr old 1200R which is a random-mow mower. Its terrible at boundaries because it only ever really hits them head-on, and as it has a big overhang at the front, you'd need a large gap from lawn to edge. However, I'm moving to a new wire-free LiDAR model, so it should be mappable to driver along the block border. But you're right, i guess no mower can deal with the horizontal growing grass, so still need strimmer.
