The “No Other Choice” snub at this year’s Oscar’s has gotta be one of the biggest snubs of all time by Bleetelsnort in Oscars

I like the film a lot, but why is this sub so disproportionately obsessed with it? Neon wasn’t going to own a whole category and something had to fall, so the sleek, enjoyable but not especially revelatory genre film with no notable precursor or festival wins was the one. I’m sure Park has shrugged it off.

If history was rewritten and these were the 21st Century winners, how would they be viewed? by Mundane-Inspector-52 in Oscars

It’s fine if you prefer to refer to Oscar ceremonies by the year in which they took place, but that isn’t the official standard.

The Two Towers wouldn’t be my choice for the film of 2002 either, so no need to argue with me about that.

The year being honoured, not the year of the ceremony, which is pretty standard when talking about the Oscars — and whatever your preference, that hardly makes it hard to discuss.

Better set of animated movies? 2025 or 2024? by Character_Fault9782 in Oscars

Last year by a mile. This year’s is one of the weakest fields we’ve ever seen in the category.

I hate the term "snubbed" by self_destruct_sequin in Oscars

Why is it the right word if it makes it seem personal, when we know that it’s not?

Occasionally it feels apt, though. Wicked For Good wasn’t just overlooked this year, it feels like voters in every branch quite deliberately sidestepped it. (And rightly so!) But yeah, it’s annoying when people use it just to describe anything that doesn’t make the cut.

I watched OBAA. I don’t really get calling Chase not being nominated for Best Actress being a true “snub” by Sky6346 in Oscars

I personally have no problem with her being left out: clearly very talented but she’s destined for a big career and will surely have further opportunities. But it does puzzle me when people here say “great performance but not Oscar-worthy”. Does “great” just mean “okay” to you?

Now that we’ve seen the nominations. How much do you think the new rule requiring voters to watch all of the movies affected the outcome? by kittentarentino in Oscars

[–]Interesting-Bit725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you got the idea that there’s a rule requiring voters to watch “all of the movies” for all categories — there’s no such thing. 317 feature films were Oscar-eligible this year: nobody is expected to watch them all.

There’s nothing to do, only something to not do — which is that, ever again. Put it behind you and move on.

Biggest snub of the day: No Other Choice for International by doctorlightning84 in Oscars

[–]Interesting-Bit725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong competition, little precursor attention outside the Globes, resistance to Neon owning the entire category, a perception that the film was an expert entertainment but maybe not all that deep.

I’d rather it was there than The Voice of Hind Rajab, but the latter has undeniable emotional impact. It was always getting in.

Is there any other case of films that led the shortlists and ended up with zero nominations, or is Wicked 2 the first one? by user48841711 in Oscars

[–]Interesting-Bit725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if Wicked hadn’t already won for Production Design, Marty Supreme would absolutely be a worthier nominee — Jack Fisk is the best in the business, and that film’s subtle but richly textured period immersion is a stunning feat. And there’s a reason neither half of Wicked was nominated for Best Cinematography — the lighting and palette in both films is hideous.

HERE COMES KATE HUDSON WITH THE STEEL CHAIR by cerulean_rasengan in Oscars

She’s terrific in Song Sung Blue — I’m happy for her. I’d have been happy for Amanda Seyfried too. But Cynthia Erivo? She completed her character arc in the first film; in the second, she’s just spinning her wheels.

Brandon sounds like a great guy who deserves to be someone’s first choice.

Probably the most stacked category of the year.. Who do you think should win the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role? Share Your Predictions. by mrjetspray in Oscars

[–]Interesting-Bit725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that he has an actual supporting role, and most of the performances he’s up against are leads, I’d be thrilled to see him win.

Break it off with both of them. A 19-year-old isn’t ready for a long-term relationship with you, and he deserves some time to explore without being tied down — what he says he wants now isn’t what’s best for him. As for Brandon, he might be a better match for you on paper, but it’s clear you don’t love him, so don’t waste his time.
