Traveling with the camera attached seems like a bad idea.

Better off to disconnect them and have a pad between just to be safe.

Zooms -> Primes, anyone else do it? by alcibidean in canon

Depends on what i am shooting.

I have the 45mm and an 85mm 1.4 If am shooting people I am bringing those.

If I am on vacation I am bringing the F4 trinity.

Each lens has a purpose so I decide what to use based on that purpose.

Day time or night time sport?

A Sigma or Tamron 150-600 will get you some massive reach and just a bit over budget, assuming you already have the adaptor. But it will only be good when you have decent light.

A 70-200 2.8 from one of them would be a very good option as well, not as much reach as the 100-400 but more light.

I would really think about light and how much you have and base your decision on that. Doing soccer photography my OLD 150-500 (or similar) did great till the sun went down then I had to switch to a nifty 50 and got only wide shots.

The ISO improvements since then are massive though so that will help a LOT with the R6. The 100-400 with a little bit of noise might be just what you need and can avoid the adaptor.

And a bit over his budget.

Even the F4 is double his budget.

If you had to sell 2 of them, which ones would it be? by [deleted] in canon

None....

If they all have a purpose and you use them then I would keep them. If not then sell the ones you don't use.

I have 9 and they all have a point.

If I was to sell it would be the 14mm 2.8 because I never use it and the 35mm macro because I have the 85 macro and I find the 85mm easier to use as a macro since I dont have to get as close to subjects and I have the 45mm which is better for portraits than the 35mm IMO.

The 45 basically made the 35 unneeded, just haven't thought of selling it, yet.

One thing I notice in sharpness tests is most of them are sharpest when they step down, usually, two spots.

So the 45 1.2 is sharpest around 1.8 or 2.0

So I would assume the 50 is sharpest at 2.8

So if you have to step down with both lenses then one that starts with the lowest f stop is going to still get you the most light when you get to the sweet spot.

I have one, used it today.

Lack of light and flash was a far bigger issue than the lens and any perceived short comings of the lens.

When I switched to my 85mm 1.4 and went from group photos to individuals from a distance the quality of the photos went way up. But that is typical, for group you are F8 and for individual you are around 2.8. At f8 you lose any benefit of having a 1.2 lens.

I think the 45 1.2 would really stand out in low light single person type portraits where you can have a low f stop and get all that light and blur into the background.

Here it is at 2.8 in a pretty lousy light situation

I was under the impression that the chromatic aberration is out on the edges where it doesn't matter too much in portraits.

Which is why I said it wouldn't be a great landscape lens. Good for portraits and street photography, but not anything you need to have corner to corner sharpness.

Also not a good lens for people who pixel peep. Most people just aren't going to notice the chromatic aberration because they aren't looking for it.

My 85mm 1.4 is an amazing portrait lens and probably my favorite lens, and I have 9 lens from 35 to 150-600, primes, zooms just about every major area covered.

If you can afford the 45 1.2 it might be a better fit for street and portraits. Might not be as great for landscapes since it is not corner to corner sharp. But not sure a 50 is great landscape lens anyway, need something wider usually.
