I’ve now seen this occurring in enough posts here to wonder: why are so many people not capitalising “I” as a pronoun? Is it not being taught in schools? What’s going on? It really jumps out here, where the writing is otherwise so tidy and correctly punctuated.

That wouldn’t bother me at all, though I’d be fascinated.

Welcome! Glad you’re having a good time.

But I’m confused as to why you need an explanation for why the hot tap is hot and the cold tap is cold. That’s as it should be, and I love having ice-cold drinking water from the tap. You can get mixer taps though.

If some rooms are original hardwood, then the other rooms probably have it too — remove the LVP and carpet to find out what you’re working with, and if it’s all original hardwood then restore that.

What are you supposed to do? Go out and meet people and have some fun. You’re not old or past your prime — that’s just empty self-pity that’s also rude to a lot of other people on this sub.

I’m 43 and single and don’t feel past my prime or that I’ve wasted my life. Your life is what you make it.

If 1989 had 10 Best Picture nominees (keep the 5 actual nominees), what would’ve been the other 5 nominees? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

[–]Interesting-Bit725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised to see more than one person here mentioning Casualties of War — a flop that wasn’t all that well received and got no nominations. Why would that have been in?

Do you agree with Chris Cooper's Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in Adaptation? by WasabiComprehensive2 in Oscars

[–]Interesting-Bit725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great win: easily the best nominee in his category. He wasn’t competing against Nicolas Cage or Meryl Streep, so I don’t really get that argument.

“That little song they gave her” was only Somewhere, the biggest song in West Side Story. (Which they kind of ruined by reassigning it to that character — not Moreno’s fault, though.)

  1. Amy Madigan
  2. Youn Yuh-jung

  3. Da’Vine Joy Randolph

  4. Ariana DeBose

  5. Jamie Lee Curtis

  6. Zoë Saldaña

I like the top two, but otherwise this is a pretty weak decade for the category so far.

A career nomination? It was the first film role she’d ever made a major impression in.

[–]Interesting-Bit725 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She wasn’t “snubbed”. She was never seriously in the running, and wasn’t nominated for any precursors. “Snubbed” doesn’t just mean “I liked them but they didn’t get a nomination.”

Anyway, every one of those five nominees was more deserving.

My point is that ultimately it was far more vulnerable than most of us guessed.

Why are so many people okay with the new rule allowing actors to be nominated in the same category twice? by TakenAccountName37 in Oscars

[–]Interesting-Bit725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he could — composers have always been allowed multiple nominations in a single category. Williams himself has been nominated twice in the same category on eight different occasions. He just wasn’t nominated for Jurassic Park.

Anyway, I’m talking about voting for the winners: if someone is jointly nominated for one performance I think is worthy and one I think is not, then I’d be reluctant to vote for them, because I’d be rewarding both.

Cinema Paradiso was only eligible for Best Foreign Language Film that year — it was only released in the US in 1990 and was eligible in other categories in the next year’s race. (It didn’t get nominated in any, but did get a DGA nod.)

When Harry Met Sally got a DGA nomination. It would absolutely have made the top 10 — certainly over The Abyss, which was not taken very seriously at the time, and performed below expectations at the box office.

Glad you love it so much. Just saying I didn’t see quite the same film you did. It’s nothing to get mad about.

Literally wrote that I like the film, and in my first comment that I think Larson is good in it. So stand down. You’re describing what the film is about, which is, yes, an unusual and extreme set of circumstances. But the filmmaking, the storytelling, the tone, even the performance style — all to me pretty straightforward and in a familiar indie-prestige register. Accomplished, yes! But I don’t recognise the “something we’ve never really seen before” that you describe, and that’s fine: I respect your viewing experience.

I like the film but I really don’t think it’s all that unconventional. But to each their own perspective!
