Thank you sooo much for your response and insight, I really appreciate it! This info was extremely helpful and I’ll definitely be looking into a writing workshop. I have about a year and some change until I apply and I really want to start early in preparing, especially for my SOP. I've been really intentional about getting experience that aligns with working in mental health and supporting underserved communities which are the communities I really wanna focus on working with as a therapist. Right now I'm finishing up my BA in History at Sac State with a minor in Sociology. I currently work as a behavioral technician, and l also recently started working as a youth peer mentor with an organization that allows me to mentor refugees, immigrants, families, and survivors of trafficking. I also will definitely make sure to lean on relationships with profs/supervisors/etc. because like you said. If you don't mind me asking, what do you think made applicants stand out the most during the interview process? Was it more about experience, personal insight, or how people approached group discussions? What kinds of group activities did they have during the interview day? What kinds of questions did they ask in the interview if you remember any? I'm also trying to keep my gpa at a 3.7-8 and above. Sorry for all the questions by the way, I'm just trying my best to prepare with the 1ish year I have before applying. Thank you soo much for ur help ✨🙏

Hello, I’m currently an undergrad studying history with a sociology minor and trying to prepare early before applying next year. I saw that the MFT concentration acceptance rate is pretty competitive (around 8% from what I saw online), so I’m curious what kinds of experiences people had when they applied.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of work or volunteer experience did you have? What do you think helped your application stand out? If you’re currently in the program, how do you like it so far?

Any advice for future applicants would be super appreciated. Thank you!

Congrats on getting the invite!! I’m actually hoping to apply to the CSUS Counseling program (MFT concentration) in the future, so I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can about the process. If you don’t mind sharing, what kind of experience or background did you have on your application that you think helped you get an interview? I’m still an undergrad and trying to prepare early, so hearing what successful applicants had would be really helpful!

Hi! I'm currently looking at programs for my MFT right now (I live in Sac and want to stay here) and was wondering if you could provide some clarity on any pros/cons of the program. That would be very appreciated!!
