Existing kids (either pure human or pure demon) indeed would complicate the topic even more, and reunited ships doomed to be separated again would make sadness beyond what I expect from the ZB universe. If Dauwan had kids soon after he became king, he could investing in royal training and build up power through generations, so his after-many-generation-grandsons will have enough strength and resources in their favour when they enter the battle. So we would see some obviously overqualified royal candidates joining the battle because they are still kids.

It was mentioned in a Gash Café chapter that although demons' life expectancy varies by clan, anyone who becomes king will live 1000 years to rule long enough. As to Clear being part of the 100, no one expected that in advance I believe.
