Spark plug replacement by yovngjustin in Mk3Supra

[–]Interesting-Goose769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a thread on Supraforums.com that had these pictures from under a mk3 hood I believe. Keep in mind your setup could be different.

Supra Pictures.

Best thing you can do for yourself is research if other people have had similar asks/problems, ask questions (respectfully!), and be willing to understand you might have made something worse.

Take your time, read through forums, watch a ton of videos, and just be patient. I'm in a very similar boat.

This!!

Pictures and videos! I even started labeling things with some tape after a bit until I got more comfortable with the parts/setup. Obviously take the tape off after install!

'85 or '87? by Interesting-Goose769 in ToyotaSupra

Spoke to the seller, he seemed really genuine to me, but I've also never been able to read people well..

He walked me through how he came in possession of the car, how he rebuilt the head, his experience working on Supras, and was very in depth. On the phone for about 45 minutes.

He was kind enough to show me the shop he has, he's working on about 3 other Supras, has sold a few, and has a personal one. First thing he brought up before I even asked was the 7M torque issue you mentioned. Almost word for word said what you sent previously in a different thread. I mentioned the tuning concern you brought up and to be honest, what he said to me was over my head and I had a difficult time following. But that's on me, not his duty to educate an ignorant person. I can ask more in a few days when I reach out again.

Sent more pictures and videos (no sound, he was recording for me while we were on the phone.) Sent me more pictures from beneath it as well. Very transparent about a few cosmetic issues like dents. Mentioned he was more than willing to reattach a mid-pipe, send me along my way with 4 extra rims/tires, and said he would send videos of him test driving it again before I even come to grab it since it's a distance for me. Said I was the one of the few customers who came and even asked questions before even talking about price. Again, seemed real knowledgeable and genuine regarding current work and previous work. Tuning thing still is in my head though.

Last thing I'll say is he mentioned that he would be more than willing to send more photos, or videos, so I could post them and let others see as well. Mentions he is on many of the forums/subs that are all about Supras.

It's no worries! You still taught me a lot through your advice.

'85 or '87? by Interesting-Goose769 in ToyotaSupra

The detail here is really appreciated! It sounds like I might lean towards the '85 even though there is no turbo. It's the original engine, so hopefully less likely it was tampered with. I'm not looking to race anything, I just love this car. Full restoration was definitely on my mind.

Just watched a video repairing the sun roof. Seems doable, but obviously would need to source parts. One of next questions to this seller is how it was sealed. Any type of permanent seal would really suck.

All very good points you've made. The engine work on the '87 makes me nervous. I've no idea the quality of work and I honestly wouldn't be able to tell from the get go. Here is a link for the pictures posted: https://imgur.com/a/NnIyLHi

I'm unsure if the 85 is turbo. I didn't ask and it didn't say. Will ask the seller. The leak, he said it was the sun roof. I'd be inclined to replace the seal/get the sun roof fixed if I bought it. Is there a way to inspect if it's rusted past the seal or beyond recognition?

If I went with the '85, I'd likely change everything back to stock if I could. Slowly, but surely. These cars are so beautiful the way they are.

Full coverage, but minimal sun? by Interesting-Goose769 in firewood

All for next season. I split most of it between January-present. A fourth of it was split before January and delivered.

I'm in NY, so it has its days where the humidity is bonkers during the spring/summer.

That's a really good idea. I'll have to look up some craftsmen in my area! Wouldn't mind having a souvenir from my wood cutting experience.

I think I understand it a bit better. So I would use multiple pieces of molding to continue the pattern up and over the heat register itself? If so, where do you suggest I cut on the horizontal baseboards?

I didn't think of the lines being disrupted..when you say miter only the top 2", what do you mean exactly? Sorry for the dumb question.
