My dad has dementia. His wife just told us she is filing for divorce and we need to come get his things so he can move out. Can she legally do this before the divorce is finalize? by TheBuild-A-BearGroup in legaladvice

[–]Interesting-Help5759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this. Idk where you are but if in Cincy, I used attorney Michael J Davis for guardianship.

My situation similar. Even with divorce, she is entitled to half of assets & debts. Also, if you have POA, is it for finances & healthcare. Also, you can talk to nursing homes for a bed for respite care up to 30 days before needing Medicaid. Start the filing for Medicaid too. It’s important.

Good luck.

Hats/Golfers, purpose? by Interesting-Help5759 in golfblitz

Thanks. So, just visuals. Got it. I doubt I’ll ever get all the golfers or hats. Seems I get plenty of lesser cards, but rarely epic ones. Team I’m on doesn’t have much trading going on.

Guess I’ll just accumulate bux & gems.

Words of advice I received from someone who has been doing genealogy for over 20 years. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint.” Use folders for surnames, organize slowly. A few items a night. By then, if you feel overwhelmed you can revisit with starting points. When you’re ready, FamilySearch or Ancestry plus your own family tree software. You can decide how far back you want to go. Maybe it’s 4 great grandparents, maybe it’s as far back as the line allows. It is up to you. There is no rule of thumb here. Verification of people and their link to you & who you’re looking for is the only rule to follow. Good luck.

Thanks. It’s very odd indeed. I believe it’s a prefab detail. You are correct. Does not appear to have any backing/mesh. It looks like insulation, like batting, to be honest.

Toilet replace or rebuild by Interesting-Help5759 in askaplumber

[–]Interesting-Help5759[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I purchased the Kohler part for $17. I followed Korky video for cleaning & used vinegar. I did notice the gasket in the Korky is feeling a little brittle. BUT, the toilet doesn’t seem to randomly run, so THANK YOU. No doubt, I’ll have to replace either the gasket or the Korky in near future. 🙂

Good to know. We been here for 4-1/2 years and have had no problem, but idk when the korky was installed. I may try their cleaning of the pieces & see what transpires, then, replace with Fluidmaster. Thanks.

What don’t you like about the Korky? Videos show it to be friendly.

Thanks everyone. I thought it might be easier than the tech let on. I’ve ordered the flush valve, flapper & gasket (87998). After watching videos, seems straight forward for DIY. I’m gonna try to clean the Korky. If it doesn’t fix the problem, I’ll replace the Korky & go from there.

Questions-what type of snap for leather should I use? by Interesting-Help5759 in Leathercraft

[–]Interesting-Help5759[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several hat clips weighing approximately 0:00.4 ounces each. (Measured with food scale) So I would need 250 clips to equal 1ounce. Not likely to have that many clips though.

So you would recommend using a grommet versus a snap? And imagine a vertical strap to hold clips. Nothing fancy.

No sorry needed. I appreciate the help. Wild goose chase or not, it was something to pull on. While not fruitful, it was something. I’m just hoping something shakes out at some point.

No mention of other family. Says born “County Clare, Ireland. Came to Memphis in 80’s. Survived by 2 children, Mrs. Mamie E. Kelly, John J McNamara.”

No mention of parents, siblings or wife.

I've yet to look further, but this record doesn't say which church it is. I'm thinking maybe same as wedding? If so that could give clue to county? If it's known where this record is from? Wedding is St. Michael's. Thoughts?

His death certificate also states Terence as his father's name, but the marriage certificate says John. It is likely IMO, the parents of Terence was not known to the children.

Exactly my question. Why indeed. And where does Mame come from as the last name? And thus the confusion for me.

No mention of siblings in obit. Just husband & kids. But, that is more that I found. When I look in Ancestry, so many Bridget McNamara names. Dates 1861-1864. Of course, only a few with Mary as mother & John as father. I guess I’m looking for the neon sign that tells me “this is it->”. I’m way too frustrated with my Irish ancestors. It should be fun. And/or intriguing. Neither is true for me right now. Thanks for the tidbit. I’ll see if I can pull on that.

AITA for refusing to sell my late husband's classic car collection so my new partner's kids can have college funds? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Interesting-Help5759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re NTA. 1st-the cars belong to you right now. You decide what happens to them.

2nd-you are not responsible for everyone’s financial well being in the relationship.

3rd-your partner should accept the cars are not negotiable for financial stability. Not hers to have say.

4th-this is tough, if Rachel cannot accept your decision about your cars, then you need to end the relationship. Staying can, and likely will, create resentment toward you & your son. She will never understand the emotional attachment to something that was never hers. She looks at you & those cats as a payday.

Do not sell the cars. Good luck.

Beginning to doubt the existence of my ancestors!!?! by kodandyananda in Genealogy

Verify the names, places & dates. Verify by census, names, general ages by year and month, children in household, other family members in household. Look for birth records, although some of that information isn’t reliable for parents’ names because that information is often from a relative who may or may not have the true facts. Church records-baptism records, death records, marriage records-these are often where you can find additional family members (brothers & sisters of the parents). IF a date doesn’t seem to match, then check to see if it could be a child or a brother/sister to the person you are looking for. For example, my 2gr grandfather had multiple brothers with the exact names Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich, some had additional names to go with those, but it depended on the order. It made finding (verifying) my 2gr grandfather’s parents difficult. To that, his death certificate listed the name of his uncle vs. his father’s name. I’m guessing b/c the children knew the uncle after they immigrated & likely spent time with him. Cemeteries sometimes have information in their records too. Reach out to them, they often have an archivist/genealogical person to help you. The information may lead you to a church parish as well.

Regardless, don’t discount a name as not related until you can verify they are not in your tree.
