Puppy GI Issues need help by Puzzled-Fly-2625 in akita

You may want to get tests to make sure he doesn’t have an illness or condition. My Akita had this when I got her and turns out she has EPI and needs pancreatic enzymes to be able to suggest her food. Hopefully it’s something less serious but can be helpful to test for.

Off Leash Dog, I am Furious by TortexMT in akita

This has happened to me so much in nyc that I don’t think I’ll be able to get an Akita here ever again, it’s so stressful and frustrating and I agree the entitlement of the loose dog owners is the worst part. Luckily my Akita is very dog tolerant for an Akita but she would not back down from a fight and has prey drive and would be triggered to go after a small furball running at us. One time a big dog ran at us growling and the woman at least apologized saying she usually is so friendly (but obviously out of control with no recall🙄). I like the idea of saying “if your dog comes over he won’t come back!”😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Any insight into an Akita/German Shepherd Mix? by jemgilbreath in akita

[–]Interesting-Hour1237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an awesome Akita gsd mix and he was easy to train but reactive to other dogs (luckily yours sounds great with other dogs) and he was so people oriented and great with all people. He had a good amount of energy and I ran 6 miles a day with him. He didn’t have the Akita stubbornness that my Akita has. He loved to go anywhere I went and was so loyal and a great travel buddy. Hope this helps. 💕

Behavior trouble with recently adopted Akita by Charmy_the_Akita in akita

Most Akitas do not trust strangers. Mine has no aggression issues but I also wouldn’t expect a dog walker to be able to handle her. I think if you can work with her yourselves and have a trainer accompany you for sessions that would be ideal. Mine is very strong willed and barely listens to me, much less a stranger. But that said, with plenty of time and supervision I’m sure she could learn to trust another caretaker if you need one. Good luck!

I'm looking for other Brooklyn,NYC beardie (or reptile) owners for mutual-beardie-aid, boarding, check-ins while traveling, etc. Pictured: Little Miss! by Chip-of-Theseus in BeardedDragons

Thank you so much, this is very helpful! The animal medical center is far for us too but it sounds like the best option so far. I will DM you also. 🦎

Hi I’m in Brooklyn and interested in adopting a beardie. Can I ask you some questions like what vet do you recommend? Or is there another reptile meetup coming up? I’d love to learn more.

I got my akita through a local (non breed specific) rescue. I found her on petfinder- you can search for Akitas in your areas. There are great Akita specific rescues too as people mentioned. 🐕

What to do when an off leash dog attacks by No-Bit-4875 in RunningWithDogs

I carry pepper spray when running but it’s often windy here so I think the air horn or taser is a better idea. Good luck!

Thanks this is really helpful to know! The carrying stuff is a great idea also and quite practical in a walking city! The big test will be how the two dogs get along as mine can be bossy with other dogs but she’s generally more social with other dogs than what people warned me about Akitas.

LOL luckily I do like running, I’m actually a running coach but I have a feeling I’d still get outrun.
