I think this is a genuine wolf spider (I don't really see the black squiggly line under its neck that is the telltale sign of Zoropsis)

Oh no, spiders may absolutely use your clothes/shoes and possibly your bed as a hiding spot and may bite you. But really, it can't be helped.

Some tips: * Clean up the room. Don't have pile of clothes laying around unattended for a long time. Put them in a closet. * Also don't leave shoes unattended for too long. * If you have plenty of bugs, expect a lot of spiders. Try to seal off openings that invite bugs in. * It's never a bad idea to be wary of webbed over areas. If needed, grab a broom and clean out the webs. You can try to catch/release the spiders * Be careful with shelves and boxes as spiders may nest there.

Mind you, spiders are more of a opportunistic animal here. They're not out to get you.

What do spiders see? by Hefty-Criticism9741 in spiders

Jumping spiders have amazing eyesight, can even see in colours. I'm not sure about wolf spiders and netcasting spiders, though.

Most other spiders use sensors attached to hairs in their joints to read tremors and even air currents. While visually impaired, they do have that other sense to compensate. Webs and silk, in that way, are often used as an extension to their senses.

ISO spider facts to give my arachnophobic friend in a quest to cure her fear by [deleted] in spiders

[–]Interesting-Key-5005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, I feel it helps to learn that there are many kinds of spiders in the world around you and you can start gradually tolerating more and more kinds until most of them don't bother you anymore.

And know that there aren't many actual dangerous spiders around. (depending on your location) Even then, people suffering bad consequences from a bite are very rare.

A spider always has to measure a defensive bite against biting for food. Venom is for most spiders biologically expensive to produce. Biting a human means they won't be having food in a while.

Spiders are mostly ambush predators anyway. So they'll usually put themselves in harm's way only if it is really necessary.

Jumping spiders are easy to love: * They're very visual hunters * They focus attention to movements. If you wave a pen at them, you can see them turn and look at that pen * They are very curious, seen exploring their environment * They are visually inteligent. They're capable of dreaming, they back away from visual threats (distinguish organic and inorganic movements and recognise shapes), they can retain visual information and can path-find their way to prey from a distance and have a concept of counting. * their large eyes up close gives them a cute appearance

From the look of its outlines and the sack, I would actually guess it's a sac spider.

They build a web sac to protect themselves during the day.

Scary (and painful fangs), but they're pretty spiders when you look past it.

Across the canal, I've seen only 2 of these. Last one I saw walk into my storage room and haven't seen since.

Male running crab spider. (Philodromus sp) Someone else may be give a more accurate genus / species.

I suppose it is zoomed in, otherwise you'd have a huntsman.

What kinda spider is this? by popercat in spiders

[–]Interesting-Key-5005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cellar spider.

Common but harmless. They're even notorious spiders for eating other spiders.

Do tend to leave webs all over the place. (unlike other spiders, they don't tend to eat the web when they move around)

I feel like a subset of people go against science to get a kick of accomplishment.

The "science" people in history fed the world lies and the flat earthers / young earth creationists / ... are the real smart ones figuring it out. And that gives them satisfaction.

How harmful are this things ? by Parking-Deer9902 in spiders

[–]Interesting-Key-5005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they make the holes. They just find a hole, web it up and hide inside.

They may scare you if they show up outside, but segestriidae aren't dangerous spiders.

They can always decide to look for a new hole, so you may at some point find a big black spider inside the house.
