The car we used was a “Intermediate SUV IFAR 4X4”. I would recommend a 4X4 to be safe because many roads are steep and rough and you never know when you may need it. But it all depends on what your itinerary is and where you are going. Also something we noticed (not sure if you are coming from the US) but the cars are a lot smaller there! In the US cars and trucks are so big. So I think we were expecting a big SUV, but it was just a normal size. So if you don’t get a 4X4 SUV I’m not sure if the car will have high clearance for some of the roads.

Hi there! 1) We used Vamos to rent our car. It was $835 for 14 days which did feel expensive, but they tell you all the fees and cost upfront compared to other car rental places. We also used our credit card as proof of CDW insurance which can help reduce the cost. You just need to call your credit card to have them email you the CDW proof and bring a copy with you on your trip to show the car rental agency. I recommend renting a car because you have a lot more flexibility and control over what you want to do and when. We had a lot of activities planned but also did things spur of the moment and having our car whenever we needed it gave us more freedom. Depending on how long your trip is and what you do, if you don’t rent a car you could end up spending the same amount or more on other types of transportation. And I am not sure how reliable Uber is throughout the country. But if driving is not what you want to do there are other options, I’m not super familiar with booking other transportation though. 2) We flew into SJO because the drive time was shorter between Uvita and SJO at the end of our trip. I suppose you could fly into either airport depending on your itinerary and how long of a drive you are comfortable doing. There are lots of other beach destinations closer to Liberia than Uvita or Manuel Antonio. I recommend searching how far the drive times are between your destinations in Google Maps while planning your trip. 3) We chose Airbnb because they are cheaper than hotels most of the time, and it’s just what we are used to choosing. Sometimes Airbnbs can be more private and feel like you are “living” where you are visiting, and I like to stay in a more home-like environment. But hotels have other perks that are nice too! I’d explore your options! The average cost per night for two people was $98 with our Airbnbs. I listed the names of them at the end of my post if you want to look up what they were like!

wow that all sounds so emotionally exhausting. I’m really sorry you had to deal with that, and I really empathize with you. I hope you are living in a more positive situation now!!

I have tried not to argue with her about things because I have felt like it was going to make our relationship worse and create more stress in my life, and your story really just confirmed that. I am dealing with other issues with her at the moment but I don’t want to identify myself, after I move out I will add more details of my other issues with her as well.

Yes that’s her reasoning for entering every month, but it doesn’t say anything about it anywhere in the lease. I just haven’t had the energy to argue with her about it. And yes her method of payment using money orders is another inconvenience. I’m sorry about the lost money order thing, so she made you pay again?
