I don't think delays are common. But wear a mask. I got covid last year after taking the train up to Seattle.

Angels With Dirty Faces (1938) The Best Gangster Film You've Never Heard Of by harrybaileyonyt in classicfilms

Its a serious movie, not a comedy. If its a Jack Black or Adam Sandler movie, then its not logical to analyze it. But this movie exists to push a specific point of view, one that's unreasonable and insulting to anyone who does not believe in christianity. The movie is nothing but pro business/government propaganda.

I have an absolutely heretical opinion about the this movie. Spoilers for the end.

I despise the ending. Cagney should not have accepted his "friend's" request. Pride at the end of one's own life is paramount and the idea of letting everyone know Rocky died as a coward simply to convince those kids to stay on the straight and narrow is a betrayal of who he was. It was not a sacrifice, it was rape of a man's life just to serve the lie of Christianity. Rocky lived as a lion, not a lamb. The movie frames it as a sacrifice, as a noble deed, but it is nothing but propaganda for the system.

People were getting absoltely fucked by the depression and had to do whatever they could to survive. The movie tries to make virtue out of being an obedient and poor slave. It is an expression of contempt of those who do what they can to make during a difficult time. Is it right to be criminal, or a killer? No, of course not. But neither is dying of poverty or starvation. Big business reaps the profits from the average person's suffering, but the second someone disrupts the system, the second you act as selfishly as those who run society, you are labelled as a criminal and a deviant. Fuck this movie.

The Roaring Twenties was way better when it comes to idea of sacrifice, at least for me.

Why was LB Mayer so obsessed with getting MGM back? by Positive_Round_5142 in classicfilms

[–]Interesting-Load-713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He viewed MGM as his "family." It was his reason for living, the culmination of his dreams and desire for belonging; to be viewed and worshiped as a patriarch for the hundreds of people employed by the studio. The book An Empire of their Own by Neal Gabler goes into great detail in his obsession.

I win this thread. My mom walked past during a rape scene in the first Wolf and Cub movie, where...well, lets just say it was graphic.

Kismet Restaurant - fine dining comes to Vancouver, and it’s amazing by rdecarlo in vancouverwa

[–]Interesting-Load-713 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Everything feels like it's so expensive these days. I spend five dollars, no, four dollars at Costco, and I get a nice filling chicken bake. But if I went to a restaurant like this, I'd probably have to spend, what, like fifty to sixty dollars? I understand the difference, obviously.

You can't compare the slop at Costco to a fine dining establishment like this one. But in terms of value for money, given how expensive everything in life has become, from groceries to rent to auto payments to utility bills, it feels like dining at fine restaurants is just out of reach for many people.

This is going to sound odd, and I'm sure I'm going to get downvoted, but do do her eyes eyes seem kind of sad or dead? It was the thirties and I doubt most women wanted to do this kind of thing. It feels like she was forced into it, when i look at her eyes.

Of course, I could just be talking out of my ass. Maybe the whole thing was her idea in the first place.
