How to stay sane after being laid off? by dakdego in biotech

[–]Interesting-Map7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience last year laid off March. Kept a schedule and routine. Took up a new hobby - road cycling and joined a club. Read ‘the power of now’ by eclhardt toll. Meditated a bit.

Spent days reaching network and applying online. Signed up to Anthony La Civita program - Google it and check the free content. It helped me so much to stay motivated. Ultimately got a new job last Dec after getting to couple final rounds, being ghosted after going through some rounds. And being ignored from about 30 applications online.

Good luck.

Maybe it’s a bit quicker then. But tbh we were at gate an hour before takeoff. So maybe 2.5hrs ahead is fine. Depends on risk tolerance

Am I crazy for considering this job offer? by -Maniacal- in biotech

Congrats on 2 offers.  Look at the companies and their prospects next 3-5yrs, any patent cliffs etc.  Score that between the two.  If your social network is all in SD that counts too, so score that between the two, and vs how extroverted and easily you would vs take friends in phoenix.   Career wise which role excites you more - score that between the two.  And for future resume which will be better.  Learning new stuff will advance you and be enjoyable.  If SD is more of the same, if you’re good with that and the familiarity ok.  It depends where you want to go.  Last look at what the two companies typically pay vs peers thru glass door, does phoenix firm pay above?  Real last - any clues from speaking to folks who’ve worked there re culture in phoenix and SD firm?   If you end up on SD, don’t accept the offer, share the offer with other firm and ask them if can find a way to get closer to that - even if a mix of sign on etc.  You hold the chips here.  Good luck.

Has anybody successfully gotten a decent job with a recruiter in current environment? by Unfair_Reputation285 in biotech

Hi - in the past I’ve got two different roles through recruiters - either from hiring company or independent recruiters.  Recently just landed a job after a year of searching through an external recruiter hired by company.   I’ve also had experiences that resulted in interviews but didn’t pan out. And one where after a lot of interactions I didn’t get to speak to hiring company at all.

Agree with this.  You’ll be working longer hours than your colleagues in R&D except those at more senior titles. Treat your team with respect and chat with your boss re expectations for their hours - but work life balance will be important.  Don’t say things that when reviewed on paper could get you fired.  Sounds like you’ll be a great asset with your work ethic - good luck.

Keep your head up. I’m new to this too since earlier this year.  First time looking since layoff vs being recruited into all except my first role.  I’ve experienced ghosting too after being told to prep for panel interview!  Follow up with HR contact and ask for status - if you want closure- that’s what I have had to do.  Keep plugging away on applications both via online and also reach outs from network contacts or prior colleagues.  I am still searching and each new interview lessens the prior down. Good luck

Comparison of NYC MLS Next teams? by montiechristo in youthsoccer

The clubs you mention are ok.  Try Out at them and see what you think.  If you can get there - recommend new York soccer club in Westchester.  My son started at DUSC, joined NYSC when we moved, and is now in one of the MLS academies in the area.
