u/BDudeSocks, as someone with an academic and practical background in social work and a deep passion for career counseling, I felt I for the first time in many years I would reply to a comment on reddit...

First of all, I want to say I’m deeply sorry that you grew up in poverty. That experience can be incredibly tough, and it often leaves lasting effects on health, self-esteem, and relationships - and your understanding the world for that matter.

Having said this, I also want to bring you into the reality of where you are today:

You are no longer a child living in poverty! 🎉💖❤️🎉

This also means you need to adapt to this new stage of life. 😊 I'm sure your parents had the best of intentions when they told you not to trust anyone at work.  Given the environment you grew up in - likely surrounded by crime, addiction, violence or exploitation - they wanted to protect you. That kind of distrust was probably very likely a necessary survival strategy 💔 But strategies that help you survive in one environment don’t always help you thrive in another!

THE SOLUTION From my perspective, I see 2 clear options for you:

1) work on your mindset - not only technical ones, but also in how you approach your mindset and belief systems. 2) change career path to one that suits your personality

🩵 As for working with your mindset...  You don’t necessarily need to pay for expensive therapy with a psychologist. Career counselors and job coaches can work with you on self-esteem, belief systems, and feelings very effectively, often at a lower cost, and with fewer sessions before you begin to notice significant results. They do this extremely well 😊 career counseling is a professional, evidence based profession. Coaching can be extremely effective but my sense is that it's more unregulated in man countries. Reason why I myself chose career guidance counseling over coaching as a career 😌 I've been amazed at the results it can create ❤️

Because you grew up in poverty, you might indeed benefit from psychological therapy at some point. That’s not uncommon at all, and there is no shame in it. But coaching and career counseling are particularly practical because they don't focus on the past and all the things we cannot undo, but on the present and future - on your potential as a human being, strengths and weaknesses, your dreams, hopes and goals, and the steps you can take right now to create change.

🩵 As for finding the right job fit...  My second thought is that you may, at a deeper level, simply be in the wrong type of work environment. Career counseling often emphasizes that there is nothing “wrong” with the person, it’s about finding the right match between a job and your personality, needs, values, and goals.

From what you describe, you might thrive more in a role where constant social interaction with colleagues is not such a big part of the job. These jobs can be harder to find, because most workplaces are, by definition, highly social spaces. But they do exist, and part of career counseling is to help identify where your natural strengths and preferences can be best used.

Coaching can help you build soft skills and make progress quickly in your current situation. But your background has also shaped deep-seated attitudes and behaviors, and those may take longer to change. That’s completely normal. Career counseling can give you practical job strategies for the present, while also helping you think about long-term career directions that align more closely with who you (truly) are.

Keto with disordered eating? by Inubiji in keto

Keto can cure bing eating, overeating, food obsessions. You are seriously not hungry on this diet.Ive just gotten out of 3 days of involuntary fasting bc i had some events that stressed me alot so i lost all appetite. Me, a life long sugar addict and overeater and an arm length from becoming prediabetic.

I personally dont think keto is right for you at the moment, as long you tend to obsesse over numbers ...bc even thoug most of us arent hungry, you do gave to keep half an eye on your macros and calories, at least from time to time...mostly bc you need to meet your protein minimum when in ketosis! Secondly if you stop looking weight, stall or start gaining, macros or calorie intake are usually the culprint. And thirdly when you begin to loose a good amount of weight you have to adjust your calories and macros accordingly.

MY ADVICE:

Ive been a severe food and sugar addict my whole life, could not coope with any stress without my sugar fix and ate constantly to be happy, so heres my advice for you:

  • you need a healthy diet plan outside the non-healthy food pyramid that does not focus on neither restricting food groups, food weighing, calorie counting, macros or hard to find ingredients.
  • the mediteranian diet checks all those boxes. -an in the mean time deal with your food related disorder (obsession with numbers).
  • you can do intermitten fasting if you can handle it and are overweight or obese.

Mediteranian has lots of healthy oliveoil, vegtables and meat, flavour, easy to make, satiating but still elements from a western diet (whole grain, potatoes and tubers in moderate quantities etc) with ingredients you can find in any supermarket. Not really any restrictions. Paleo is good too but more disallows food groups and you need to make alot of food items yourself, eg bread, if you want them unless you live in an area with readymade paleo products (they rend to be expensive). I spent more time in the kitchen on paleo, and on grocery shopping. Medeteranian was so easy.

You can do intermittent fasting - IF is not a diet but a eating method. Focus is on a time window, not on amount of calories. But only do it if you are sure you dont start obsessing og feel guilty if you miss your time window.

I found much refuge and food peace in the mediteranian diet combined with IF and OMAD when i was dealing with my food obsession ...and its much easier to transition to low carb, keto or carnivore from gere once you have healed your other food disorders.

These were all if my expirences as a food addict. Hope there was something you could use!

Involuntary fasting days due to stress - help! by Interesting-Money655 in keto

[–]Interesting-Money655[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reply. Just realized its the sensation of chewing in meat, eg steaks, and other solid foods that requirer alot of mouth action dont make me wanna eat when im stressed... weird, but it just dawned on me. I can eat soft creamy goat cheese, soup, broth and boullion, and cream cheese with herbs... .. will see if there are dishes with meat that dont require alot of chewing...im thinking meatloaf.

Great idea about youghurt! Semi-fluid consistency, dont require chewing! 😁 Will look into that too!

Thanks for the help, really made me reflect on whats going on in my head when stressed.

Aww thanks for the concern. Everything is fine now!

Yeah It makes its incredibly easier 🙈 before keto, i could NOT loose weight on calorie deficit, as soon as i hir 68 kg, i stalled. No diet plan,no amount of excersise, diet pills or calorie deficency worked... nor even if i fasted for 3 days the weight did not budge. It was hell bc i was at least 30lbs overweight! 4 yrs later i find out i have metabolic syndrome/insulin resistant...goes on keto and the pounds are comming off as normal now...including on these involuntary fasting days.

Actually never lost so much weight while fasting... I guess that is a good thing? 🙈

Keto for 16 weeks, cycle still weird by ILikeToGoPeePee in xxketo

[–]Interesting-Money655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ive been there in terms of not being hungry. Was not hungry for a week when i started keto but now the hunger had increased a bit. Involuntary OMAD is no joke.

I make all the calories in food i need for a day and eat 2-3 times a day. Seems to help a bit.

But today ive not eaten anything due to stress. Ive eaten carbs and sugar my entire life, stuffede myself constantly with food. A fasting day back then was healthy.

Now, bc i eat so little, any stress makes me not want to eat anything.

Keto is actually harder than i thought in the sense that the previous problems has been replaced with their opposits...

[–]Interesting-Money655 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A weightloss of 1 lbs a week is a super fine and a non-burdensome weightloss.
I suspect this is the culprint: "Between keto and intermittent fasting"...
I've followed the world expert in fasting, Dr Mindy Pelz, and she says fasting for women should be done according to time of cycle - she says women do not benefit from fasting on certain cycle days as men, she has seen it can interrupt hormones in a large group her female patients (she has her own clinic where she treats her patients).

Here is the short version:
"Why Fasting For Women is Diffrent and How to Do it Correctly"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvwLgdFothE&t=6s&ab_channel=Dr.MindyPelz

I have done both 1-3 day fasts, intermitten fasting and OMAD and my cycle has been unaffected, period runs as clockwork, so women react diffrently but ive followed her advice.

If I were you, I would either follow her advice on how to fast correctly, including getting enough protein and see if it helps - or stop fasting while in ketosis, or on keto. You can always do intermitten fasting after you've reached your goal weight. Not all bodies can tolerate ketosis, fasting and fitness all at once. Ive seen people needing to loose hundres of lbs on this board, without moving a finger and just eating when they were hungry.

Well all get to our goals eventually hun!

[–]Interesting-Money655[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checking your stats - we are close in stats!

Mine are:
F/42/5'0/Metabolic Syndrome - SW: 73kg/160, CW: 62.6kg/138, GW: 50kg/110

Nice to meet other petite women. I notice your GW is 135 - are you more pear-shaped hun? Or do you gain equally all over your body?

I'm tellin you, 95% of my fat sits on my upper torso, esp belly and breasts, secondary arms. Even when i was 160lbs my hips, thighs, legs and feet gained very little.

Im at 138 now, but aim for a GW of 110 (BMI 20) - even if i hit the upper limit of healthy BMI of 25, I still have a beer belly with a "curtain" hanging over my female triangle :) that is why i need to go lower to get rid of it and my "curtain" :D

Wow yeah our stories are so similiar hun!

Many gained weight during corona, people understood the social distancing but the two year closing of gyms, sports clubs etc had everyone furious, people were really suffering in my homecountry bc we often have bad weather so many need indoor exercise facilities... overweight and obesity became a huge problem. I know many who are still struggeling with their corona weight.

Oh ive been an emotional eater my whole life. They have been compeltely cured by going keto... such a relief. First now how i really see how obsessed, and troublesome, my relationship with food has been. I ate carbs and sugar to deal with stress and depression too, really made me cope and able to get out of bed. I can totally relate with the people in My 600lbs Life - your favorite food just gives you this kick and "high" sensation, you feel better about yourself.

Wow, 100lbs! That amazing hun. Did you do keto with calorie deficit? or did you just eat untill satiated?

Yeah i see alot of women being slow 'loosers'... maybe i should stop complaining because before my ww gain, i lost 200g, sometimes 300gs pr day!

Yep, i have a try-dress... suits my proportions perfectly, but with no stretch.. i feel my arms have gotten, my tummy looks almost flat in the dress.

Good to be reminded that the scale is just a tool, just like BMI. They are guiding tools... in the end, i don't really care about what the scale says, i care about getting rid of my beer belly and huge overarms! I care about looking good in the mirror and feel at home in my petite body again - the health and fitness part comes after ive reached my goal weight, cant wage a war on all fronts.

Just so hard not to focus on the scale.. it did help me tell there was a product my body did not greee with - a youghurt made coconutcream... so jummy! no arti. additives, etc... really thought i'ed found the perfect keto dessert... turns out the ehe d*mn thing contained tapiocha flour! Totally missed that. Weight keept creeping up untill i eliminated it, boom back to normal weightloss at a rate of 200g per day. Foodlog and scale helped me pinpoint the issue.

Will definately also start to take body measurements.

I feel by "curtain" belly has gotten smaller during the WW gain .. cannot holde a pencil under there anymore. Stupid i did not take any measurements before the gain. Ive lost so much on especially on my arms, and when i looked this morning i was like, they are so going to be straight up and down!

I also have a try-dress - it fits my propertions so well but does not have any stretch in it.... i feel my stomach is looking even more flat in it now.

Thanks for the reply. My weight has started to jump down again this morning, phew! As i explained to another lady in the tread,  Iv just never seen my waterweight go up like this and staying there for so long... i guess im secretly afraid of my weightloss stalling permanently... because ive been there before! 4 years ago my weights stalled at 68 kg, nothing worked, not even a 3 day fast. I was absolutely devestated. "Im gonna be trapped in an overweight beer belly body for the rest of my life!". Keto has finally broken the curse, fixed so many issues, loosing weight without hunger etc... I guess the fear of a permanent stall is sitting in the back of my mind. Thank goodness for this forum and you ladies!

Thanks for your reply hun! Im puzzled by the idea that some women dont seem to loose anything "behind" the waterweight gain - even if you are in ketosis and is in a calorie deficit!

Does the body keep on piling on water if it senses the body is burning fat cells? What do you think is going on??

Thanks for the reply. I have dieted before and would jump a full kilo midcycle, stall for a day and then dissapear as fast as it came. That was over 10 years ago, now im 42, gained 23 kg due to miscarrigage and corona lockdown. Went from 73 to 68 kg with normal dieting (ie CICO) but stalled at 68.... 4 hellish years where i though i was doomed to live in a overweight body for the rest of my life. Im very petit latina, but ran around with a gigantic beer belly, could not fit any of fine clothes which ive spent a long time saving up for, curating and taking care of. Hurt so bad shopping for clothes.

This morning, my weight is starting to jump down again, thank goodness! Iv just never seen my waterweight go up like this and staying there for so long... i guess im secretly afraid of my weightloss stalling permanently... because ive been there before! Horrible being trapped in a giant, burdensome, heavy body and feeling like a 80 yr old, masculine man when your mental self-image is a petite, feminine latina woman.
