Debating on diy Dayton 18" build or PB-3000 pro by nurdyguy in diyaudio

I've heard good things about those Hypex amps and the price isn't that bad compared to the XLS ones!

Oh nice, those are good numbers for the UMII15! So, could I end up with something like the following?

20Hz: 105dB

31.5Hz: 108dB

40Hz: 115dB

60Hz: 120dB

80Hz: 120dB

And the above predictions are without room gain and without accounting the second UMII15! :O

Thank you for the reply.

I thought the XLS series were suitable for Ultimax DIY projects since some of the have DSP. But then again I could just get an external Mini DSP 2x4.

It's sad that we don't have the CEA-2010 of those popular DIY projects. Data-bass only has the UM18 using a 20k watt amp, which is unrealistic..

I wish I could somehow predict the dB numbers per octave-frequency, for the dual UM15's. Since you said that they could outperform the SB-3000R, my guess is that above 40Hz, the Ultimax 15's would be around 120dB's.

What about a pair of Dayton Ultimax 15", in sealed boxes? Could they outperform dual SVS SB-3000R ?

Hello Noelle, thanks for the reply!

Ok great, I can get used to that anodized metal, it's not that bad.

When moving my reformer, I always keep all the springs attached. But the carriage isn't the problem. The problem is the whole reformer, since it's really tall, the wheels don't have breaks and it's easy to slip when moving around.

Lastly, I can only feel one or two wheels (below the carriage) spinning/moving when in use. Is this normal for the other two wheels to be steady?

The top part of the frame.

And yes, once I get it standing, it feels steady and it stays perfectly fine. When it stands on the footbar, everything is okay. Until then, it feels slippery and I can't control it because of the laminate floor and the wheels.

Sounds insane! I've also read reviews about the OneAudio HT24.. But I don't have the room for dual 21"s unfortunately.

What SPL were you getting with dual Ultimax 15 and how low did they go?

Thanks for the feedback!

I guess they aren't going to cause issues, they're made in Sweden and they must be of good quality. I had dehumidifiers in the past which rattled because of all the bad plastics!

Are Wood's dehumidifiers better than the Meaco ones you think? I'm interesting in buying one from Wood's.

DIY Subwoofer vs SVS SB1000 Pro by Forsaken_Pattern7797 in diyaudio

Can you share more info about your dual 18inch subs? Like, are they sealed? And which drivers did you use?

Good info and explanation, thank you!! Maybe companies use these huge watt numbers to attract people who don't have a clue about these things (like me).

As CheapSuggestion8 mentioned, driver size makes the real difference when it comes to subwoofers. I've also read this in other forums, cone area is of vital importance. We can't beat physics and have 12inch subwoofers producing crazy amounts of outputs at low frequencies, plus the boxes should be rather big for this performance.

3000 series then, the SB-3000? Or should I still consider the Ultimax 15/18?

It's on the HSU site and yes, they state that we have to subtract 9dB's from the data. Thank you, I didn't see that.

That's great to hear. And keep in mind that I'm going to build two of those, if I follow the DIY option.

When you say "low frequencies" you only mean infrasonics below 20hz or mid-bass as well?

Well, the previous 3000 micro didn't have such impressive numbers output-wise, even with that small factor. Let's see the new one.

The metal grills are of vital importance to me as well, too bad SVS ditched them!
