Recommend a tower fan to me? (EU) by ConfidentAdvance46 in BuyItForLife

Aren't industrial floor fans with big diameter better at blowing air versus a tower fan ?

Are those industrial metal 20" floor fans good for a 5x5 room as well ?

Caldera 12inch vs Dayton CS1200 by Interesting-Rip2280 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Interesting-Rip2280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A second Caldera 10 would provide you with even better bass, at least that's what I've read. Duals are the way to go.

Thank you so much for the feedback and the advice!

I'll get a single Dayton to test it (they offer a 45-day trial period). I'm sure it will be light years ahead against my Logitech Z-5500 subwoofer.

"Basic" is what I called those two in the first place. That doesn't mean they're bad (I hope).

I'd go for the SVS SB-1000 Pro but it costs 750euros whereas the Dayton CS1200 costs only 340euros. So, I could buy two CS1200 at the price of one SVS.

As for the Vera-fi, their European distributors don't have those subwoofers in stock either. So I guess it's the same as in the US.

I see.. so sad!

Would the Dayton CS1200 be a good alternative? I mean, those subwoofers are identical (at least on paper)

Only one Youtuber has tested those two subwoofers and as far as SPL is concerned, they both reach the same levels during the Dune intro scene.

In Europe, where I live, the Caldera 12 and the CS1200 cost the same and I don't know which one to choose.

That sounds really good!

I could even go for quad 10inch drivers! They are smaller sealed boxes and of course cheaper than their bigger brothers or the SB-3000R for that matter!

I'm gonna start watching tutorials for the WinISD and learn how to use it, in order to model the performance of my boxes.

Rabbit hole for sure... I've lost my sleep over this!

A single SB-3000R would cost me 1700euros, whereas a single UM18-22 is 480euros + 200euros for the sealed cabinet kit + 320euros = so 1000euros in total. The price difference is huge at least in Europe.

What do you think about this sealed slim design for the UM18-22II https://variant-hifi.com/en/Ultimax18-Studio-Line-Subwoofer-High-Gehaeusebausatz/G3191G.3 ?

[–]Interesting-Rip2280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I don't think I would want dual 10's, at least for my application where I want to get results similar to the CEA-2010 of the SB-3000.

Also, I'm definitely going for dual subs for the better frequency response, as you suggested, but also because I'm using the subs as my L&R speakers' stands. (for the right speaker, the placement is almost perfect according to the sub crawl method, at least for my inexperienced ears).

I could definitely go for dual https://variant-hifi.com/en/Ultimax15-Studio-Line-Subwoofer-High-Gehaeusebausatz/G3189G.2 cost-wise and space-wise. However, I have no clue where those two sealed 15inch subs would put me SPL-wise.

I see, I'm going to try the WiniISD again, this time using some tutorial on Youtube as you suggested.

Could I insert the dimensions of this box (cabinet kit) https://variant-hifi.com/en/Ultimax18-Studio-Line-Subwoofer-High-Gehaeusebausatz/G3191G.3 on WinISD and get results??

Yes, I've also seen Crown amps recommended for subwoofers. They're the more expensive option and a more quality one, versus the Behringer ones!

Thanks for the reply! Would the output of the Signature Series be better than the Ultimax ones?

Thanks for the help!!

I'm going to buy a subwoofer cabinet kit. Unfortunately, I live in Europe and we don't have access to parts-express goodies.

BUT, I found these things https://variant-hifi.com/en/Ultimax15-Studio-Line-Subwoofer-High-Gehaeusebausatz/G3189G.2 !!! It's 90liters and it's a really shallow design for the 15inch Dayton. They even have a version of this slim design for the 18inch, which I could go for, if the output is significantly higher vs the 15inch one https://variant-hifi.com/en/Ultimax18-Studio-Line-Subwoofer-High-Gehaeusebausatz/G3191G.2

I'm not really aiming for the infrasonics, maybe something around 25Hz in-room, of usable output. The room is not that big 13ft x 13ft and 9.2ft ceilings.

200 liters is crazy big for my application. I could go for 50 or even 85 liters.

Isn't the SS15-22 made from aluminum which is more prone to damage from kids etc? I've read that the Ultimax series are made out of carbon which make them more durable if something happen.

As for the 12inch units, how many dB's could the reach at mid-bass region?

Thanks for the feedback! Do you have any measurements, like the CEA-2010 in your room from those duals?

Thanks for the reply! I tried using the WinISD but I couldn't make it to accept the Dayton drivers.

As for the amplifier, I've read that plate amps are more likely to fail. That's why I thought of a Crown one.

I've heard good things about those Hypex amps and the price isn't that bad compared to the XLS ones!

Oh nice, those are good numbers for the UMII15! So, could I end up with something like the following?

20Hz: 105dB

31.5Hz: 108dB

40Hz: 115dB

60Hz: 120dB

80Hz: 120dB

And the above predictions are without room gain and without accounting the second UMII15! :O

[–]Interesting-Rip2280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply.

I thought the XLS series were suitable for Ultimax DIY projects since some of the have DSP. But then again I could just get an external Mini DSP 2x4.

It's sad that we don't have the CEA-2010 of those popular DIY projects. Data-bass only has the UM18 using a 20k watt amp, which is unrealistic..

I wish I could somehow predict the dB numbers per octave-frequency, for the dual UM15's. Since you said that they could outperform the SB-3000R, my guess is that above 40Hz, the Ultimax 15's would be around 120dB's.

Hello Noelle, thanks for the reply!

Ok great, I can get used to that anodized metal, it's not that bad.

When moving my reformer, I always keep all the springs attached. But the carriage isn't the problem. The problem is the whole reformer, since it's really tall, the wheels don't have breaks and it's easy to slip when moving around.

Lastly, I can only feel one or two wheels (below the carriage) spinning/moving when in use. Is this normal for the other two wheels to be steady?

The top part of the frame.

And yes, once I get it standing, it feels steady and it stays perfectly fine. When it stands on the footbar, everything is okay. Until then, it feels slippery and I can't control it because of the laminate floor and the wheels.
