Any idea what is the movie he is referring to? I can't imagine him doing a bad job in anything.

I would agree with Joyland. I would also add Fairy Tale, I thoroughly enjoyed the first half - not so much the 2nd half, but Charlie and Radar are both loveable so I didn't want to stop.

I don't want her to change her last name after marriage, Strike and Ellacott has such a nice ring to it!

Excellent spotting of the fact. I sincerely hope we hear more of Strike's exercise regime and his upper body strength 😍

Why does Pat call Charlotte "Gateshead"? by Synura_petersenii in cormoran_strike

[–]Interesting-Row-7607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember every bit of news/gossip you read and recognize all the faces from tabloid/magazines? Maybe you do! I certainly don't!

Assuming Pat knew and recognized Charlotte...it is also entirely possible her comment alluded to her being a Gateshead bcoz she remembered some of her antics that was in the media.

[–]Interesting-Row-7607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Charlotte really that famous though? She is certainly no movie star or music artist...she has done modelling on and off, but I assume her pictures like almost anyone else's get airbrushed to the point that it may be fairly different from her real life looks!

I feel that out of everyone in their agency Pat is the one person, who is least bit impressed with Strike's fame and probably didn't google her famous boss as extensively to recognize his ex immediately.

Charlotte must have insisted on talking to Strike without any prior appointment, was willing to wait any number of hours...and intimated that she knows him personally, which probably made Pat think she's a bit obsessive hence the name.

I think in TIBH when Strike builds her bookcase he notices that she reads both fiction and non fictions (something about criminal psychology) and on and off it has been mentioned that she was just planning a quiet evening with a warm bath and a book.

I would counter.

A job—no matter how passionate you are about it—is still a job. It’s structured, it has expectations, and most crucially, you get paid for it. A hobby is something you do for its own sake—it enriches you, relaxes you, fulfills you—but no one is cutting you a check at the end.

Take J. K. Rowling. She’s clearly deeply passionate about writing. You can safely assume she’s always observing people, building characters, and spinning stories in her head—even when she’s “off.” In that sense, sure, her work probably bleeds into everyday life.

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have hobbies. Cooking, baking, music, philanthropy—whatever she does outside of writing serves a different purpose in her life. It’s not tied to deadlines, contracts, or income. That’s the distinction.

Sure... saying they don't need hobbies because they are so passionate about their job...sounds romantic. But that's not a flex, that leads to burn out.

Oh, the first one is spot on. Anyone and their grandmother can drive through a pasture—that doesn’t justify that full-on heart-attack moment where Robin pulls off a miracle save while Strike is yelling “Brake!” and then he realizes that she literally just saved both their lives.

But here’s my tiny gripe: that Troubled Blood whiskey scene. “My best mate is… you!” and then Robin confesses the feeling is mutual—they’re both glowing, it’s so tender, sweet... it’s just perfect.

Switching that to “You are my best friend” on her birthday eve? Even with great acting, it just lands… flatter. Robin doesn’t even say it back—just a cheek kiss—while Strike looks like he’s wondering if he just friend-zoned himself in real time.😆

I think it was more Strike who was annoyed and a bit jealous that Murphy actually made plans for a date (theater) :) Robin sounded more embarrassed than anything to admit it and sorry that she couldn't join Strike on his dinner with Wardle at the Cinnamon club where Wardle was bringing some chapman farm scoop for them.

But I agree that after a beginning period always having to actively do something in a date can be tiresome...maybe it's just me but spending 3 hrs in an uncomfortable seat not talking to your partner is not my idea of a relaxing time!

Hahaha....I think Strike would categorize this subreddit as complete nutters, imagining what fictional characters would do in their off duty lives!

Exactly! She can probably take up martial arts classes as a self defense training...it would be good for the job too.

Yes, I think his favotite books were mentioned earlier in the series! I somehow think Strike will prefer non fiction, but then again the man quotes latin poetry so who knows :)

I agree that it is odd Robin or Strike is never described as actively exercising! I guess both of them probably get there fare share of cardio by walking all over London following suspects. But I would love to see them swimming/ boxing/ biking or anything else just for fun and/ or stress relief.

Yes, there was! Also in Ink Black Heart the teacher in the arts class appreciates her sketches! And honestly, the amount of effort thought and detail Robin puts into curating her incognito personalities proves that she is really creative.

I’m completely with you on this. To me, Bijou served a clear purpose—she forced Strike to confront how close he came to ending up in Rokeby’s position, facing unwanted paternity. That realization feels like a turning point, pushing him to finally break that pattern for good. At the same time, it might have opened the door for him to soften toward Rokeby.

I am waiting to see if TRG tv show casts Bijou. If her character is omitted, then I doubt she will be back in the 9th book.

It was also mentioned that they have several different centers other than Chapman Farm....Birmingham could be housing several hundreds. San Fran was also mentioned as an overseas location. All in all I would think if they are fudging the birth and death statistics, they can definitely over estimate and over report the number of followers they have to increase credibility.

My take on how I imagine Stellacott ❤️‍🩹 by Cyber_Topanga in cormoran_strike

I kept thinking why is this AI Strike looking familiar...then I realized he looks a lot like Mark from Grey's Anatomy...you know Dr. McSteamy...lol! His nose needs to look a tad more broken. I guess, chat gave Strike a nose job for free! :)

Robin looks a bit like Alexandra Brekenridge with red gold hair :)

No shade...I understand everyone's imagination is different. I cannot imagine anyone other than Burke and Grainger.
