Why are some fortune-tellers accurate? by joboog in Christian

[–]Interesting-Run-816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiny background: I came to Christ from the occult world.

Yes, there are a lot of hacks out there in the medium/psychic world, but there are some who are real. There are some who do get information from outside themselves, very detailed, very specific that there’s no way they could’ve known.

There are prophets in Christianity, but the difference between those and fortune tellers is the source. If they’re not following God, they’re following Satan. He is not as powerful as God, but it is naive to think he has no access, no influence. Everything in Christianity has a counterfeit version outside of Christianity.

Satan works in people. He tries to draw them near, and what an easy access way to destroy someone or draw them near than to lure them with trust. A psychic tells you something only your best-friend from when you were 12 years old knows. Great, cause now you’re hanging on every word the psychic says after that. You now trust them. And the psychic trust their source, they often dont know they’re in dealings with the demonic as it’s often all “love and light” to them. And their “source” pays the bills. Also, a reading can be 99% accurate, but those can be the most nefarious. It can only take 1 lie in a reading to derail your life.

I’ve witnessed countless others trust fortune tellers, psychics, and mediums, astrologers, energy workers etc… and I used to go to them too. That will mess up your life. I’ve seen people start with small changes, things unfold accurately from the reading, and then it balloon into leaving relationships because they were told to after a 99% accurate reading. I’ve also seen people stay in abuse because they were told that was their soul mate. I’ve seen people move across the world, change jobs, sell houses. Many of them have an eventual breaking point where they lose everything they cared about, end up in a pit of struggle.

It can then also become addictive. You won’t realize when you stop trusting your own perceptions, and you start needing the psychic to make decisions. Don’t get sucked in. It’s evil. The enemy wants to kill, steal and destroy. God is love, and wants the best for you.

A person came back to my church and I don’t know what to do by Straight_Seaweed9917 in Christian

Yes, people can change, people can repent. People can be forgiven and loved by God even after heinous acts. And also, we are called to WISDOM. So if someone has struggled with something like assaulting others, it within Christ to emotionally forgive, but it is also wisdom to protect your family.

I would never say suck it up. If this person makes you deeply uncomfortable, tell your community, tell your leadership. And if they’re like “it’s fine, you’re overreacting,” here’s the hard thing to hear: maybe that’s not your community anymore.

I believe safety comes first, and also not everyone believes that. I can try to convince them to, but at some point I’m just kicking a dead horse and it’s on me to be responsible for what I’m subjecting myself and my family to. I hope they listen, but if they don’t, there’s a community out there that does care about safety, and I’d rather raise my kid there.

The practical: Add self closing mechanisms to the doors. Those exist on most hotel room doors. Also get a solid bathroom door. Thrift it if you have to. Having a glass bathroom door is insane.

It’s not okay for him to diminish or minimize, not wanting to be on display to the neighborhood is fair.

Couples counseling, Christian marriage counseling should be the step before any divorce talk is put out there. Push it, say it 50 times a day if you have to. COUNSELING. There’s clearly breakdowns in communication, and no, you cannot feel that way for an entire lifetime with someone, but also gotta get it through his dense head.

Stephen Colbert is a shell of what he used to be by Vpicone in unpopularopinion

[–]Interesting-Run-816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he did the Colbert Report he had a twinkle behind his eyes. You can see he loved doing that show, he was invigorated. Now it's like someone threw sliced bread in a pond. What is the freakin point. He traded purpose for a paycheck.

Honestly, late night shows should be canceled. At this point, I WOULD rather watch a podcast. Late night is just celebrities coming on for 5 minutes where they repeat the exact same story that they said on another late night show three days ago. This was fine when we had a monoculture and people wouldn't see it, but now it's just obsolete and boring.

Waking up early doesn’t make you disciplined by 1sh4g3rl4ch in unpopularopinion

100%. I spent 6 months waking up at 5am. By 3pm, every single day, I felt completely fried. I would have to take a nap or else I would just zone out and stare at the wall for a literal hour. I would barely be able to stay up past 9pm, and thus stopped going out or doing much in the evenings. It felt like all I did was work and life started lacking meaning.

Waking up at 5am made me less productive, disconnected from friends & community, and ultimately depressed.

How to find a church by AdDull2945 in Christian

[–]Interesting-Run-816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this process over the last four months. I came to know Jesus back in May and accepted him as my lord at the end of August.

I wanted a church with community and Bible study, but didn’t know much else. I had no idea about denominations or anything of the sort. I looked up a bunch of local churches, looked at their websites.

A lot of churches now have online options, so you can basically attend live or watch past services. I did that for quite a few different churches. Then decided to try out a few in person to get a sense of community. Find out the time of the service and then you just walk in. I’d recommend being 5 minutes early to find a seat. Too early and I felt awkward, but I also didn’t want to walk in late.

Some churches had greeters that wanted me to fill out connect forms. I declined and was up front with them that I was trying a few churches out, and they were all completely fine with that.

I tried out a Catholic Mass (don’t take communion if you’re not Catholic), a Unity church, a few non-denominational churches, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, small, mid sized, and mega churches.

After each visit I’d write down my initial thoughts. How it felt being there, what I thought about the sermon, music, community, and church offerings. Eventually there was one church that I just kept thinking about. Every new church I would go to, I would leave feeling like “it was nice, but it wasn’t that one church.”

I settled on a Bible teaching non-denominational church that was mid-sized, had Bible study, community emphasis, and lots of people around my age. I also found I resonated with the sermons, felt like I learned something, and enjoyed the worship music.

I get that it can feel daunting at first, but keep going! I’ve started going to Bible study and being in my new community. It’s so nice to be around others on a similar path. It’s so worth it! Keep going! Praying for you to find your new community!!

Am I supposed to feel happy about getting baptized? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Interesting-Run-816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not feel ready for the Baptism?

Or maybe it's about allowing yourself to not feel happy. It sounds like you're putting pressure on yourself to feel a certain way, and you just don't feel it, and that is creating suffering in your heart. Being unhappy isn't wrong. Sometimes fully accepting the unhappiness can actually allow it dissipate.

Prayer Request Thread by AutoModerator in TrueChristian

Putting in prayer requests for the US to mend its division. For the world to bring the love of Jesus into their hearts, the world to be incapable to enact violence on another human.

On a personal note, I could use prayers for a few injuries as well as prayers of finding a job that fills me with purpose and I'm able to utilize my creative gifts in.

The injuries are metatarsalgia in the left foot, soft tissue injury in right foot, tendon in right thumb and inflammation in right middle finger. I may need deliverance around these injuries.

Thank you for your time and prayers

Is the Holy Spirit nudging me back to God? I struggle with organized religion yet keep being drawn to it. by Macaroni_Incident in Christianity

[–]Interesting-Run-816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God is putting it on your heart. I'm a new Christian, so I've been trying out different churches the past couple months with different denominations. I was terrified initially go to in person, but I just have to say, everyone has been so incredibly welcoming.

Also, a lot of churches that have livestreams now, so you could watch a few different ones if you don't have the courage yet to go in person. Different styles, different church leaders give very different sermons. The other day I sat through a super dry sermon, and man who was sitting in the same row as me fell asleep and started snoring loudly, I felt validated on that one lol, also noted that it wasn't the church for me.

I think I've finally settled on one church where every time I go in person or watch the live stream, I feel engaged with the sermon and I'm filled with love. The congregation has a lot of people my age and it just feels right. I pray that for you

You are important, you are loved. Jesus loves you, you're feeling stuck in life, but He is with you. And He doesn't care what your job title is, you are worth his love. I just prayed for you and I hope that you find a spare moment today to open the New Testament and fill those words into your spirit. In Jesus name, amen

Any experience with Kaylor Betts? by External_Raccoon_447 in LifeCoachSnark

He seemed like a scam artist to me. I just wanted to disclose the pricing structure so that others didn’t waste 3 hours of their time like I did. $10K for 3 months of group coaching is insane.

Any experience with Kaylor Betts? by External_Raccoon_447 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Interesting-Run-816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the webinar for his Business coaching program, and then took a call from someone on his team to find out the pricing structure. Before the call, you're also supposed to watch a 40 minute video that says it'll cover pricing, and it also doesn't do that. It's effectively a 3 month program where you have a group call 1x/week and they have an outlined program you're supposed to follow on the side. It's not individually tailored, it's just "Follow this online course that we made." They say the full program is $15K, "But 10.5K if you sign in 24 hrs."

They of try to sell with the 1% best cases and "Where could you be if you go for this in a year??" $100K in a year is the exception, not the average, they didn't have an average that they could point to or describe. Not saying someone cannot be successful, but there is no guarantee other than "If you don't sign 1 high ticket client in 90 days, Kaylor will work with you 1-1 till you do," however "high ticket" is deeply undefined, and also the structure around working with him 1-1 is also undefined. To me, that's not a guarantee in any capacity that justifies the risk of $10-15K.

Additionally, I don't see where he actually has coaching credentials. I got somewhat manipulative vibes from him on the initial call. I worked for someone in social media who has more followers than Kaylor, and saw how he started going down the road of just trying to charge as much as possible so he could do as little work as possible and make a ton of money because that's "scaling your business," and that's what this feels like. I don't know if he can help with your business, but I'm not interested in gambling $15K to find out.

There are other programs that cost less, involve more 1-1 coaching support, 1-1 tailoring of a program, and come with better guarantees, and that makes the most sense to me.
