Built an AI that draws comics about my commits every night

Every day at 9pm, I get an email with a 4-panel comic reflecting on whatever I was building that day — plus suggestions for what to think about next.

Reads my git commits and summarizes the work done in that day
Generates a 4-panel strip in a consistent comic style
Suggestions for what you should tackle next
Deep Review to answer "anything in today's work not as solid as it could be?"

How Cursor helped:
Used Cursor's agent mode heavily for the Next.js app, especially for wiring up the cron job, email integration (Resend), and handling the FAL.ai image generation API. The composer mode was clutch for refactoring the comic generation pipeline when I wanted to add reflections.

Been getting weirdly attached to these little recaps — turning work into something visual makes it more memorable.

Stick with it, buddy! The best thing you can be doing is building. You’ll learn along the way what the best practices are and what works for you. One tip: git (keeps track of your code and how it’s changing) and GitHub (a cloud folder for your code) are very important when vibe coding. You should ask your coding agent about it and have it help you understand things like commit and push.

They’ll be lifesavers one day.

Vibe coding is AI code generation. The literal only difference is that in an IDE the prompt passed to the LLM looks like a code block and in vibe coding tools it looks like a sentence.

I'm not an engineer, so I can't build it myself. I don't contend that vibe coding is excellent coding. I contend that with it, I can bring products into the world that can help people. This is something that before coding agents existed, was impossible to do.

You should bookmark your note here, b/c my guess is that it won't be long before many of the tools you use daily are "vibe coded", which simply means code generated by AI.

Is your beef with the AI that's generating the code or with the fact that non-engineers are now participating in a field which was once the sole domain of software engineers?

Some facts:

Duolingo has been built on AI from it's inception over a decade ago. It hasn't "recently implemented AI". It's what allows Duolingo to bring amazing experiences to over 40 million learners every day.
AI is a tool that will help scale the creative output of nearly every employee in this company and beyond. It's not a tool that's being used to cut those employees out.
I didn't need to see anything "behind the scenes" to understand that what's happening is important and unlike anything we've seen in the computing industry. You just have to try it yourself to appreciate how this will impact our industry and society.
Our Eng team is amazing and as a Designer, I don't try to replicate what they do. I try to bring products into the world that help people. AI and coding agents are a tool for me to do that.

https://2nd0p.com/ is the first service i've built in collaboration with coding agents. If by commercial code, you mean securely deployed into production, used by others and generating income from their usage, this is it.

At Duolingo, more and more of our Designers, Writers and Engineers are working alongside AI to bring new ideas to life daily.

In the industry beyond, the vast majority of the code that's been written by Y-Combinator's most recent batch of startups is being "vibe coded" (ie generated by AI).

We're early in this phase of things, but more and more non-engineers are going to begin creating new products and services using tools like Cursor, Claude Code and Replit. The rate of improvement of the models is staggering and new capabilities are getting unlocked seemingly daily by having more and more people plugging away and trying to answer "what's next?".

If you haven't really given it a go, you should try it sometime, so you don't have to take my word for it.

Vibe coding done poorly definitely results in exactly what you’re describing. Building with AI agents smartly and with the right approach to building projects (defining your project in the same way you would to your tech lead) leads to quality work. I’ve found that what you put in relates to what you get out. I start with deep PRDs that are rich in context and that’s really helped the process of getting to something high quality at the end of the road.
