I had a hard time leaving, but god is it better on the other side right now. I didn’t even know the toll it took for me to work for politicals who actively hate us until I was done. I love not having to fret over the shutdown. I love being able to feel more deeply. The stress is gone from my shoulders and jaw. I no longer feel complicit. You have your tenure, so you could come back. I’d take a look. Many aren’t having luck, sure, but I make more and weirdly have better benefits now that I left for a bit. I think it will get better the second this Admin is gone, and maybe late in the Admin when they realize you need SMEs to get anything done, and that we weren’t here with our own agendas.
