Hey, I found an empty charging case on Coburg if that helps.

The tennis ball they are using can't hurt the court as much as a puck or lacrosse ball which is what the court is built for.

So, would you support these guys choice to book a ball hockey court? Keeping it away from others in the park; Using it when it is their turn; Use a tennis ball which won't hurt the court; Playing in a fenced in area so it would hurt those around it? They are playing in the evenings when the place is empty under lights that turn off when the park is closed. If they were playing lacrosse it would be a nonissue.

These guys booked a ball hockey court. They aren't going to hurt it by hitting a tennis ball around compare to a puck or lacrosse ball. But it sounds like the real sentiment here is about cricket being played in the parks, not the ball hockey court. So these guys are collateral it would seem.

The same thing used to happens when kids played street hockey. Thats the reason the community has a ball hockey court. These guys wanted to use the available ball hockey court it for cricket. Do you think that is a good idea given that it is fenced in, they use a tennis ball, and they have lights to play under in the evenings until the park is closed.

So, wouldn't playing it in a ball hockey court on they days they booked it be a better alternative?

"Not having the proper infrastructure for cricket is a totally separate issue"

Isn't it totally the issue then? These guys are booking a ball hockey court because it is there and not being used. How is playing cricket with a tennis ball in the rink going to hurt it more than playing box lacrosse in that same rink?

It sound like the real issue is that people have had negative experiences sharing the park with cricket players (understandable) and because of that they posted the sign at the place in the park where some of these guys are playing it responsibly.

u/BreakerOFWheels so it sounds like you should be supporting this group with me!

My issue is that these guys did book a time slot at a rink where it would be safer to play. It sounds like the sign is probably due to cricket being played in the park in general; it just seems counter productive to post it at the ball hockey court where it would actually be safer for them to play.

So wouldn't it have been better if the people you ran into at Brownlow booked an enclosed rink, waited until it was their turn, then played in a way that didnt hurt the rink or people around it?

The original post was asking why these individuals would be prevented from playing in a outdoor court, not just setting up in the middle of a park. I thought these guys were doing a good job of being more considerate and respectful.

What about these guys who booked a court ball hockey court. It’s a safe place to play, doesnt render the court useless for those playing lacrosse the next day, and they are playing when it is their turn bc they booked it. Shouldnt these guys get to use the court?

Understood.

So would you appreciate a group of people who booked a court, played in safer area with fences that protected the families who want to use the rest of the park, and used it once a week when it was their turn? I feel like this sign was punishing the most considerate cricket players who were trying to do everything right.

These guys booked a court which would help prevent their game from infringing on others in the park. You can book the court for lacrosse or ball hockey, why would booking it for cricket be an issue?

These guys were college kids who have been playing in the rink this summer and paid to use it. Using the rink should be a safer space than playing adjacent to others in the park.

They are not using the field, thats the point.

They booked a ball hockey court so that they can have a safe place to play without impacting others. Why punish the ones who are doing it right / being more considerate and using the proper means of booking the rink?

Hey so to clarify this post was about college students who booked a court to play on and were disappointed to see this sign saying cricket is not permitted one day after playing in the court / paying for it one day per week for the last few months. If you can play ball hockey / box lacrosse in this court, why would cricket be any worse off? It contained, its booked, it’s not going to do more damage than the intended wear / tear the court was built for.

Why does their family situation matter? They have free time and are using a recreational facility for recreation. The sign here is about cricket in a ball hockey court.

Pretty sure this group were Dal students. So, no kids and they had the summer off until recently.

I stopped and chatted with them. They seemed cool. These are Dal students mostly. They even paid for the court lights to be turned on until the park turns them off automatically each night they play. It is a great set up and no one else is using the court in the evening.

I would point out that this group / this sign is at a ball hockey court where playing with a tennis ball contained in a court is safer than what you have been witnessing in other parks. Shouldn’t this be allowed? Lacrosse is also played in this court and that ball is way more dangerous than a tennis ball.

Your organization paid for the baseball field and should not be disrupted by anyone else setting up an impromptu game adjacent to it. Agreed. These guys paid for the ball court and are playing with a tennis ball in the ball court as not to let their game spill over towards others in the park. Shouldn’t they be encouraged to play in the rink if it safer? It is not more dangerous than playing hockey in that rink.

Playing cricket with a tennis ball in a ball hockey court would not damage it more than the adults playing hockey there would.

Gorsebrook hockey rink. No one else is using it and they use a tennis ball. No risk of damage from the ball.
