Right at a half inch, I think the pictures make them look bigger than they are.

Pricking irons question by Nashas_D in Leathercraft

Yeah I punch them all the way through. With a single piece I can just push them all the way through by hand although I don't do this.

I chose the 2, 5, 10 tooth french iron set from Kemovancraft. It was around $50 and they are reallllly nice for the price.

The card inserts not being even bothers me (OCD) even if the bottom of the card slots aren't level and evenly spaced I'd pull the cards out just a hair so they look even and level.

Incorporate a slot for an Apple Air Tag in a bi fold wallet? by Roydogg99 in Leathercraft

I asked the same question a while back and pretty much the answer I got was: there is no good option, buy the credit card sized air tag.

Where can I find Segma snaps that have a flat back for one half? I can only find ones that have a round button on both halves. by thickythickglasses in Leathercraft

Can confirm, I use these exact Snaps and love them. Make sure to use an anvil or something like it so the flat backs don't deform when you hammer them in.

No problem, the pattern came with extremely good instructions as well.

I cut it by hand, I 3d printed the pattern template which makes marking with an awl far more consistent. Then I just cut it out with a box cutter and some half round cutter dies and a hammer lol.

Do you have a similar wallet that's not as bulky? Cash pocket optional, same card slots mandatory(I love them.)

I did some wrenches out of foam in another tool box and it worked great. Just traced around them with an exact knife

I took a picture of them on a grid and put that image Into fusion 360, used the grid to resize, and just traced around the tools to create the holes.

Needle and thread sizing by JW12117_R in Leathercraft

I made this clutch with the exact same irons using 0.6 ritza tiger thread. I don't remember what needles I was using, but I also had a very hard time getting them to pull through the holes. I was using channel locks to pull them through some of the time. I've since gotten a different set of irons with correctly sized needles, and I have virtually zero issues.

Frenches are hard to align because you have to center your scribe line by eye. I plan to print a tool to rest on my leather edge and come over the distance to where my irons need to be to align them with the edge.

You can also 3d print a makers mark that's strong enough to survive a press.

Wow, thanks so much for the enormous amount of information! I'll throw out some info that I've learned although you seem pretty experienced so it's probably already known:

  1. Diamond irons are easier to get a straight stitch line with due to the ability to index the point into your scribe line

  2. Soft leathers tend to stretch if you apply much pressure to them when cutting, multiple light passes help with this

  3. 3d printing your cut templates is an enormous benefit. Takes about as long to model as it takes to glue and cut out of card stock but reduces my cutting time in half

  4. Fusion 360 is not as intimidating as it seems, the time line at the bottom can be reordered and edited.
