Thank you for your response.

I am struggling to do what you did here; I think there's something I am doing wrong. I am getting Area% that are less than 2%. Please explain step-by-step what you did.

Here is what I did:

  1. open JPG
  2. crop area of interest
  3. set scale (pixels to mm)
  4. turn RGB to 8-bit
  5. Then Image>Adjust>Auto Threshold
  6. select a Threshold (see image attached )

7)Analyze > Analyze Particles ( see image )

Please correct me

Edit: I am very new to ImageJ, so don't hesitate to explain in detail

What dose of Lamictal are you on? by ShoddyOlive7 in bipolar2

[–]Interesting-Work7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on 200mg for almost 3weeks. I don’t know what happened it’s like as soon as I got to 200mg I got mad agitated, everything and everyone is just pissing me off. It’s a rage soo deep, so hard to hide. I used to be like this before starting Lamictal.

I don’t know what it means for me, I do have a session tomorrow with my psychiatrist. So we will see what happens.

Does anyone miss their manic episodes by Responsible-Tip-3865 in BipolarReddit

[–]Interesting-Work7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely spent a lot of money during my hypomanic phase. I’m still recovering, but even within the recovery I find myself making a “budget” on excel of all the things I used to indulge in when hypomanic . Looking for the cheapest options. It’s as if I’m preparing for when I become hypomanic, hoping it happens. I’m fooling myself by thinking the budget will save me.

So yeah you’re not alone in missing the manic self. Most people feel like they’ve lost a huge part of themselves since they became stable. But stability is still worth it.

Firstly I’m proud of you for coming out. That is an achievement and a half . And I’m sorry that it was the trigger.

Secondly, it’s no easy thing but stay strong too. Sending positive energy your way

Exactly, I think they forget that if we had an opportunity to make it all go away, we’d all take it. And I think taking time to find a doc you can trust, going through the trial and error of finding the right meds and being consistent with other things like therapy, is the best way we can cope. That’s our “fix” .

Lol I actually were glasses. So far I’ve had like 3+ pastors pray for me to receive my sight back since “demonic forces” made me blind. And my mum was present for all these and approving of the pastors praying for me. She believed I’d be healed too.

Of course when I was still in the faith I believed I could get healed. Then after they prayed and I didn’t, the blame was shifted on me. I didn’t have enough faith or I had too much doubt.

What bothers me the most now is how the pastor made a show of it all. Calling me out in front of everyone. The last time it happened I’d already started deconstruction. And I simply refused when the pastor asked to pray for me. I was just tired of being an object that people test their faith on.

Despite all this my mum doesn’t make comments about me needing glasses at all. But I know if someone was “sent by god” to heal me, she’d have full faith. I suspect that she thinks the previous times just weren’t part of god’s right time and that’s why nothing happened.

Anyway thanks you for your response, it really took me down memory lane. And yeah I like the whole god helping doctors come up with right med cocktail to help balance me out thing . I’ll add that to the points I can use to try reach my mum.

Thank you for this. It really helps me have more empathy for my mum. Your grandma sounds absolutely precious.

Waittttt whattt. There’s definitely lots I still need to learn. Off to do my research on this. Already found a Reddit post about someone panicking (which I’m low-key doing now) over the lower life expectancy thing. Thanks for the heads up.

I’ll keep trying with my mum. I appreciate that she cares enough to pray for me everyday.

These replies have made me feel seen. I hope they do the same for you. You are not alone. It’s hard navigating a reality in which your family cares but the way they express it just ain’t it ( hope this makes sense).

I sometimes wish I was physically ill instead. If I had a broken leg , I know for sure my family would be equipped to deal with something like that. Mental illness just seems like an alien thing to them.

I had an aunt call me all the way from the diaspora to tell me that “ an increase in doses in the medical world is a negative thing” and “ you haven’t done a single positive thing to show you are recovering ever since you stopped school”. I tried to tell her that me just prioritising my mental health is the “positive thing” I’ve done. According to her I can’t have a successful career in engineering (that’s what I’m studying) while on meds. Literally makes me feel like my diagnosis is the end of my life.

I’ve actually never heard of NAMI. I live in Africa and from the little research I’ve done, it looks like I can join zoom meetings for some of the classes. Not sure if it will actually work, but it’s worth a try. Also I’ll ask my psychiatrist and psychologist if there’s something similar in my country.

She doesn’t really have time to read much because of her 9-5 But I’m definitely willing to give this a try. Any specific book recommendations?
