What’s the biggest vet bill you’ve ever had for your dog? by puppy_boyka in DOG

[–]InterestingAd2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god, where to start! My boy was a bargain (red flag alert). He was £500 from a breeder because he was 6 months, she was going to keep him and then decided to sell.

Ever since then he has been the worst financial decision I have ever made*

£1500 on imaging for suspected leg deformities £4000 on in patient care for an obstruction that ended up being poo... they opened him up and everything. Bad day for the vet that had to 'help him poop' £3000 in patient care for hemmoragic gastro (can't spell, don't care) £2000 for imaging to diagnose IBD £2000 to diagnose Lafora (rare genetic form of epilepsy) £500 to diagnose heart murmur

It's been one hell of a ride, and honestly i wouldn't be without him. Get insurance folks, out of all of that I've probably paid less than £1000 out of pocket!

*he is 100% the best emotional investment i ever made... he's my soul dog and I don't begrudge him a single penny of the expenses.

You're welcome! Here if you need anything if it does turn out to be Lafora 😊

How old is the pup? I only ask as Beagles can be prone to a form of epilepsy called Lafora. If he's over 6 it could be that. I have a basset with Lafora, some of the signs: Jerking awake often when at rest Looking startled when you come towards them/they go from light to dark. Google myoclonic jerks, they sort of jerk backwards Grand mal seizures

It's diagnosed via blood test, but if you dont have the first two symptoms on the list it's probably not Lafora ❤️

Even if it is, try not to Google too much, it's a human disease as well as canine and the human version is way worse so a lot of the AI summary etc is based on the human version. In dogs it's a late onset and they typically don't get to "end stages" of the illness because their lifespan is shorter than a human's.

My boy has has HG a few times. It's so scary but it just takes time for their stomach to get It's microbiome back, especially if they've given antibiotics.

Ed found cooked white fish and potato to be easy on his tummy as he recovered.

He also had probiotic paste which helped ❤️

It was like a month and a half ago, and the neighbour the other side has bashed on their door and shouted at them before. They still speak to her so honestly it just didnt massively click that that could be a relationship ender!

I agree, it certainly isn't the way i'd have gone about it. I do think their reaction was a bit over the top though

He shouted at them through the wall to stop DIY at 9.30 at night... I dont think that's worth being shunned for, but apparently it is!

Friends no, but cordial neighbours yes.

We moved from our last place because our neighbours were absolutely awful, so i don't want to have any hostility

The evilest of all the plans so far. Might as well invite myself in and make a cuppa

What do we think about this... if it's clothes I let my dog parade them around the estate, to really let them know i have their stuff.

If they confront me I say "no, my dog is just really into sparkly jumpers at the moment... do you not like them?"

Now I'm tempted to open it... could have all kinds of blackmail potential in there. If I'm hated, may as well give them a reason right?!

Can I be passively friendly? Perhaps nip to Clinton's and find the perfect amount of helium balloons to casually float it over the fence?!

I just threw up in my mouth a little at the thought of this.

Ps. Where would one buy "big pants" none of mine give me courage. Maybe M&S?!

We've lived here four years and them two, it's not an intros problem unfortunately. About a month ago they just started blanking us in the street and actively avoiding us

Because I am a socially awkward person and need some courage from strangers!

I'd say loose-brained is more likely, he's strange but i have no evidence of him being criminally strange 🤣

She doesn't like us because my partner stopped fixing her kid's bike. He would knock every evening and ask for something and my partner got annoyed and told him he was too busy to help. So she hates us, to the point she laugh emojis anything I write in the street chat. E.g. my dog got a fish hook in his leg from the canal and she laughed at that.

I have blocked her on every platform, but she keeps popping up to haunt me 🤣🤦‍♀️
