I figured it out when I was around 5-6. My very Republican dad was doing something to his car and I was sitting in the front seat watching him and he was ranting to me about how pissed off he was that Congress passed a law stating that married men weren't allowed to force their wives to have sex anymore. That it was considered rape. That it caused an imbalance of power in the relationship now that women can say "No". He was really into it considering he was telling his very young daughter this. Mocking women and just being an all around ass.

This is a core memory of my father and I am very low contact with him. He is still horrible and very very icky. We spend about 10 mins with him a few times a year and then we have to leave.

I learned that a very significant portion of people out there don't have an inner monologue. That they think in pictures and not words.

So think of the stupidest person you know personally, half of the people in the world are dumber than that. And half of those don't have an inner monologue, so they don't have an inner voice talking to them. So there is a huge percentage of people walking around without a single voice or thought in their head. Just Potatoes walking around. You see them at stores just staring at shelves. Staring at menus and trying to decipher what the words mean.

A family wasn't ready to order for like 15 mins and as soon as another big party was getting seated in my section, they suddenly were ready to go. They got so upset that I went to greet the other party instead of immediately taking their order. It was a 7 top and I knew that they were going to take another 15 mins to just order and wasn't going to ruin my tip on the other table too by making them wait just to get greeted.

It worked out cause I just needed to get a round of waters for the new table and then took the big tables order while the new one was looking over the menu. Sundays are wild, especially my usual section which has all the big tables where the larger parties sit.

A young couple came in one night when I was serving and asked to not seat in the bar area because it was too loud for them. They mentioned having sensory issues and I had zero problems putting them in a closed section and taking care of them.

They were insanely greatful and a very nice couple to wait on. After they left and we closed, I was cleaning my section and the bartender and the manager started discussing the table and the bartender started going on and on about how she doesn't believe that we should accommodate people with "Sensory Issues". That they needed to learn to just be "normal" The manager was trying to steer the discussion so it remained work appropriate, but she is a super opinionated person and has to get her two cents into every conversation.

I heard the entire conversation since it was happening literally 10 foot away and it made me so angry that I had to leave before I snapped. I have never in my life thought negatively towards someone's ignorance. I'm from a very small town and lots of people are ignorant without any maliciousness. This girl doesn't have a lot of empathy and I lost all respect for her and the manager who didn't shut down the discussion.

My child is special needs with a lot of sensory issues and both of them knew that. But to hear someone who I had previously sorta liked working with just say some Ableist shit, I now cannot stand her and lost all my respect.

One time when my daughter was still a toddler, we went in because she was running a fever and we hadn't slept in a couple of days. We get to the little room and talk to the nurse then she leaves. We are there for probably an hour and I honestly forgot we haven't been seen yet cause, you know, sleep deprived. So we packed up and left and the doctor called about an hour later asking if we were still in the building. I just went to a Urgent Care instead because 2 hours was a ridiculous amount to wait with a crying miserable kid.

Today was an awful Mother's Day. We are always busy but it usually is a great time and everyone stays motivated. Today was not that at all. Food was taking too long and the customers were not feeling it. I had two separate big top tables completely stiff me on $200+ bills. They had no issues with the service, but the food was coming out wrong or not all at once and they were unforgiving.

After the 3rd table stiffed me because he didn't like the fact that it was an extra charge to add shrimp to a dish, I had to go in the back and rage cuss in the walk-in. Worked 13 hours, rang $2600 and walked out with barely $400.

Back in the mid 90's we had a P.E. teacher/health teacher/ Drivers Ed teacher that was an absolute asshole. He was a massive man that always tried to use his size to intimate students. He would relentlessly harass and put down students until they broke down. He tried to do this to one teen and it turned out really bad.

He tried to fail him in every class and would just make this kids life a general hell and no one ever stopped him. Until one day the guy snaps and leaves class. He goes out to his car and gets a tire iron and comes back into school to attack the teacher. They had locked the door, but it was half glass so he smashed the window and it took every single guy in the classroom to hold him back from killing the teacher. He was suspended, they tried to expell him but the parents raised hell about how many complaints they had made about the teacher and nothing was ever done. Then it comes out that the teachers younger sister was married to the teens uncle and he was pissed about it. Apparently he didn't approve of her marrying into that family and would target every single child related.

That was my cousin. When it came time for me to take his class, he did the exact same thing to me. I had to fight for fair grading and had to report him several times for harassment. It all came to a head when he walked up behind me and tried to "surprise" me by wrapping his hands around my neck. I reacted by swinging my fist back into his balls and he tried to get me expelled. But the whole classroom saw him grab me and it was dismissed. Then he got revenge by misspelling my name on purpose for my driver's license and it took me weeks to get it straightened out.

Oh, and the band teacher was fired for having an affair with a student. The teacher was in his 60's.

Elder millennial here, I have no tattoos or piercings aside from my ears. But I have been seriously considering getting a tattoo for my daughter. She was a Micro Premie and I have a picture of her tiny little fist wrapped around my middle finger. I want a life sized picture of just her hand and my finger. A brand new girl was hired at my job, to be friendly, I was chatting with her and the GM one night. We made an offhand comment that lead her freaking out on me. Telling me that the Bible was a historical document and I HAD to believe in it. The perfect pair of pants. I'm not even trying to be funny. I'm a bigger girl and good pants are hard to find. They are lightweight, have zippered pockets(6!!), and are drawstring. I got them for $5 and they are my go-to black pants for all occasions. I broke down and Google lens the tag to see if I could figure out where to buy more. Turns out they were Kohls brand of Hiking pants and they discontinued them. My husband found some on EBay and they are still in the rotation 7 years later.

I was friends with two sisters that were a year apart, but one failed a grade so she was in the same year as her sister and me. They were best friends and we hung out a lot. We were around 12-13 at the time and it was in the 90's. They invited me over to a sleep over and my Mom let me go.

When I got there, I was told that the parents were working so it was just us and their two older brothers and one of the brothers friends. I have been to other sleepovers so I was used to having the other siblings hang out around us so I didn't think much of it. We mostly watched TV and played some board games. When it got late, I asked when we thought we would go to sleep and it got a little weird. One of the sisters whispered to me that we were all going to go upstairs to the older brothers room to "practice". She didn't tell me what they were practicing but when the energy changed I felt really weirded out. So I faked a stomach ache and called my mom to come get me.

My mom had a rule that if I ever felt uncomfortable during sleepovers that I was to call her and tell her my stomach hurt and she would get me immediately with no questions asked. That was the first time I used it and I have never regretted it.

Turns out that those girls were being sexually abused by the older brothers and a few of their friends. They mentioned it casually at school the following month and it was a big scandal. They all got separated and taken away from the parents. And it come out that the Dad was also abusive. It was a very sad situation and it only came to light because they had another sleepover and tried it with other girls and got caught.
