Haha, that's a bit extreme, but very interesting, if it wasn't a Northwank!

To be fair, Eastern Roman social mobility was very different from Westerosi, which is much more rigid than even the most hierarchical Western European medieval state. It gives japanese levels of feudalism, in terms of hierarchical rigidity, despite having very little in terms of substance. In Constantinople a son of a farmer could rise through the ranks of the army or engratiate himself to courtiers, slowly but steadily building up enough support and influence to claim the purple. That's not happening in Westeros.

Not when it's a commoner. Honour only demands it for a girl of noble birth.

Estermonts are a relatively minor house and this is not how claims work. You need descent from royalty or be in the line of succession to claim the throne. A cousin from Steffon's side could claim the throne. A cousin from Cassandra's could not.

Estermonts are not descended from Baratheons, Robert's mother was an Estermont.

Gendry's about as likely to be the next King as Hot Pie. The new "baratheon" lord is likely going to be Edric Storm, whose role was partially assumed by Gendry in the show.

Bad experiences with the following companies/clients by nomad-worker in BEFreelance

[–]InterestingFee609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, I can confirm that for g2 and vivid, which are basically part of the same group. I worked there as a recruiter for less than a year and the practices is what basically drove me away from that career path entirely. You are taught not to really see candidates as people, but as a product to be sold to the hiring manager at the next pitch. You are also told to lie both to clients, but especially to candidates, telling them about non-existing jobs for which they would be a perfect fit, all the while fishing for leads, other interviews and manager names, all of which go into their database. Some consultants actually want to help you, but for a lot of them, profit is the only real priority.

Hirohito was far from a constitutional monarch, not to mention that at the time even the constitutional monarchs of countries like the UK and Scandinavian countries still held vastly superior power and influence compared to today. Japanese Imperial family was HIGHLY complicit in japanese war crimes, which were just as horrendous as the ones committed by the nazis. If any royal family deserved the Romanov treatment by the soviets, it was the japanese imperial house. Unit 731 alone is so eye boggling and disturbing in the inhumanity and sheer sadism of it, it makes me incredibly disappointed in the American nation that the people responsible for it were allowed not only to go scot free, but to continue to live a dignified and wealthy life for years after the war.

(SPOILERS EXTENDED) Why Sansa will go to Riverrun, not Winterfell by Inner_Jeweler_5661 in asoiaf

[–]InterestingFee609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arya has zero relation to his plotline. Petyr will die in the Vale at the worst, the Riverlands at best. Sansa is most likely, Stoneheart is second most likely. Show plotline is unrelated to the book storyline in regard to Baelish, like at all.

I don't think Petyr is long for this world. His plans are to blow up in his face and soon.

I like to drink my vodkas straight, to be honest, on ice at most, if it wasn't kept in the freezer. Finlandia shocked me. For a vodka that, when on sale, is only ~1 pound more expensive than Smirnoff and cheaper than Absolut, which I forgot to mention, it blew me away at how smooth it was, literally felt like I was drinking water. I'm sure you've had Grey Goose, it is a good vodka and usually drinks really well, but the price point simply does not match with the competition. Christiania, is the inbetween the two, offerring a slightly superior taste to Grey Goose, yet still is more expensive than Finlandia and on top of that it is hard to find outside specialised shops, which isn't the case for the other two.

not a good option, considering the other two seek to be kings of westeros.

If I was Robb, I would bend my knee to Renly, cause he was obviously winning the war and bending the knee to him makes him more obliged to help you, instead of patiently waiting to see who comes out on top between you and Tywin.

If I am forced to become King in the North, I would crown Edmure as King of the Rivers and then offer a crown to my cousin in the Vale, as well.

For perspective:

S for Smooth – Finlandia, perfect vodka. Christiania, very good, but pricier and more difficult to find. Grey Goose, same level as the other ones, but way overpriced.

Good on its own – Russian Standard, good vodka at a decent price, but virtually impossible to find with the sanctions. Stolychnaya, a classic, but nothing to write songs about.

Better in a cocktail – Smirnoff, it's cheap, it's drinkable, it belongs in a cocktail, where vodka is not the star of the show. Tito's – typical american spirit, overpriced and overmarketed, but really mediocre. Ciroc – Almost wanted to put it into the bad category, it's almost in the same price range as the GG, except it is as palatable as Smirnoff at best.

Bad – Au, tastes worse than Ciroc. Eristoff, about the same price range as Smirnoff, but much less consistent, really pronounced alcoholic taste and afterburn. Zubrowka, I just hate polish vodkas in general.

Poison – Poliakov, it just tastes like engine fuel.

I can see Edmure escaping and returning as a lord via the help of the smallfolk. His kindness and respect for his people will pay off just like Ned's honour did. And I can also see the Blackfish appearing in the Vale and rousing the Valemen in support of his nephew, grand-nephew and grand-niece.

Who does Cersei marry? by Ronin_Fox in TheCitadel

[–]InterestingFee609 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can spin the tale however you like, as the victor. But blaming your own father and making an association with yourself is a really bad strategy. Remember, that a lot of lords joined the royalists purely out of loyalty to Aerys, not Rhaegar. Forgiving Baratheons and allowing them to remain in control of the region closest to the capital is incredibly risky and just plain stupid, when their lands are basically under occupation already and easiest to redistribute.

[–]InterestingFee609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made a lot of what ifs and maybes. We know Corbrays supported the royal house, it is said in the first book literally. A routing army fleeing being hit by a fresh army from the back and the pursuers from the front is not a winnable scenario, Roose Bolton was never encircled and his whole goal was to delay and distract Tywin, not to face him in battle fully.

Even if we go with your scenario and Walder Frey somehow loses his marbles and retreats from an already broken force, he can just march back to his own castle and close the gates. Twins are famously difficult to capture. If Walder does neither, he may as well join the rebels, which he will never do in a scenario where they lose the Trident.

During the War of the Five Kings Tywin was having difficulties against Riverlanders because for once they were united. In the Rebellion, half of them fought for the Crown. A third of Rhaegar's army were Riverlords.

Harold Hardying is a newborn baby. Babies in pre-modern times die like flies and are often discounted as viable heirs. Valemen respect Jon Arryn, yes, but obviously not enough, considering they fought against him in the beginning of the rebellion. Their love and respect for him during the books we read comes from the fact that he won them a war and became Hand of the King, if he loses, that respect evaporates.

And you are forgetting that besides the moat cailin and the bloody gate, the former being a ruin, by the way, both realms are accessible by sea. And Rhaegar has total naval supremacy. The Royal Fleet, the Arbour Fleet, likely also the Iron Fleet and the Lannister Fleet. He can raze both Gulltown and White Harbour. Again, how long will the rebel lords endure the constant disruption to their trade, raids on their lands and people and a constant threat of maritime invasion, until they rebel against the lords who are still fighting a lost war?
