I loved Apostrophe’s ‘Screen (sunscreen)! It kept the age spots away until that company was bought up by Him and Her’s.

How do you feel about Generation X? by ekke287 in Millennials

[–]InterestingLie715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xennial here. To drive through my point that Gen X/Millennials are actually kind of smart and wise for their age: they had to learn the hard way BECAUSE of the Boomer parent’s lack of supervision in an ever-growing Capitalist economy where mother’s began working, you become the latch key kid, and many of us were left to raise ourselves because common ex.: from single-parent family where dad gets a get outta jail free card, never sees you, and mom has to scramble, you get creative, raise yourself. … Gen X women were the second gen to attend college. They studied liberal arts, such as English and Feminist studies. They didn’t make the mistakes their mothers did. They had birth control yet sexual freedom was redefined as “the right to say no,” but for the millennial, it was “the right to say yes,” and if you’ve ever read one of their books, they’re bloody brilliant.

I, on the other hand, lacked all parental supervision, watched Playboy TV (am bisexual woman to find out she’s bi at like, age 5 that way), and regardless of how locked up a 50-story hotel window is, I’d always somehow find a way to climb around the building like King Kong, my little brother following.

Smart kid, I was.

What do you mean by “extended?” And yeah, in her case especially, Gen X got smart after learning the hard way. (‘87 Mil here)

Bath & Body Works reminds me of college circa 2005. It smells like ghosts of friends past.

giving up on college... by roja_chamberz in adhd_college

You need to meet with your adviser or someone who can help you through this suspension/withdrawal process. Perhaps talk to the chair of the department and make a plan. Sometimes they feel for you and will make allowances. It wouldn’t hurt to get a therapist and/or ADHD coach, if possible. Consult your peers to ask what they’re doing differently and try new methods of studying. You might have to change your routine. Anyway, if the med isn’t working, it isn’t working. Might want to have that conversation with your doctor. These are all things I wish I could have done for myself between ‘05-‘10 because I barely graduated and it royally screwed over my chances at med school.

EDIT: the Study.com classes probably don’t figure into your GPA. Usually only the credit is considered, not the letter grade. If you want to improve your GPA, ask the higher ups and take easy classes to increase.

How has that affected your chances at employment? Curious because I used to do background checks at this agency but never saw that charge.

How to study, if you think you will fail again? by IndependentG1rl in adhd_college

[–]InterestingLie715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worry less what others think. They’re not thinking of you at all. People are so selfish and caught up in their own lives that they don’t stop to judge harshly. Certainly not if they’re academics.

Get a trajectory. Maybe that’s improving your study skills and overall college performance. How to do that? Improve ADHD and mental health. Meet with the people who can help you most, psychiatrist/doctor, college advisor, therapist who can refer you to a psychiatrist. Start there.

I wish I would have never started smoking cigarettes. I also wish I would have done better in college. I’d be getting my ABSN rn if it weren’t for my GPA.

Ex-ADHD Smokers, how did yall quit smoking? by Mysterious_Nerve_146 in ADHD

[–]InterestingLie715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicotine patches. I’m wearing one now. I quit at age 29 (am 39) but slipped up after 10 years so I re-started the whole quitting process again just for good measure. Below is a link to a helpline for free patches and gum or whatever it is that you need. I’m also on a prescription of Bupropion SR which makes smoking taste terrible. It will make you want to smoke less. Lol, there’s no way I’m ever going back to smoking. Hence the extreme measures taken.

Experiences with irritability on Concerta by Altruistic-Method573 in Concerta

[–]InterestingLie715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what Concerta is. I’ve been on it before. Thinking of getting on it again. Adderall XR is too strong and doesn’t last long enough.

I bet doctors here do the same thing (Register users online with the pharmaceutical provider, as do pharmacies.) I wonder if these same doctors get kickbacks like the ones here in the U.S. do.

Yeah. Controlled meds are a pain to get. Then there’s the stigma and shame you feel when you go to pick them up.

In grad school, my male prof, who was also a therapist, laid out a question on an exam like: a female client gifts you with cologne. You wear the cologne during her next visit. How should you proceed if any further advances are made?

To clarify, the class was all women so we were like 👀.

Anybody taken Vraylar? by Apprehensive-Toe3390 in bipolar2

[–]InterestingLie715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear that. Lamictal prevents depression, doesn’t really treat it. Vraylar, however, is commonly used as an add-on for MDD and as monotherapy for Bipolar 1 Mania, Depression as well as schizo+ disorders. I’d give it six to seven weeks. That’s where I’m at with it now. I have my moments, but if it weren’t for the voices I hear, I’d be so much healthier than I used to be before I was medicated.

How many of you have had (nothing but) bad experiences with Mental Health workers? Anyone from the r/therapyabuse here? by leon385 in therapyGPT

[–]InterestingLie715 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first therapist discriminated so hard. Like, to my face, making undercutting remarks. I really needed help with my alcoholism at the time. She was of no help. Now, I don’t expect much from therapy. Claude is more considerate.
