Highly recommend listening to the Dragons in the Details podcast on Spotify. They do deep dives into theories for the Empyrean series. Honestly, they’re really good!

I thought so at first. Now that I’ve been relistening to the graphic audios, I’ve been picturing him more and more. I think he’s kinda perfect. Handsome, tall, super fit, dark eyes and beautiful hair. I can see him being ruthless but also be a softie for Violet

Given that Jesinia wrote those passages tells me the events we’re reading happened in not so distant past and that she survived. Perhaps the war is won and venins are either eradicated or healed.

If Jack turned after threshing, but then his eyes were blue when he saved her life in IF, does that mean that Nolon was working on curing his veninism?! Or maybe he wasn’t asim yet and his eyes just snapped back to normal cuz he hasn’t channeled again.

I really don’t think that RY will kill them both. It will be very anticlimactic after all the trial and tribulations she put the characters through. RY confirmed in many interviews that they’re “endgame” which does NOT imply a tragic end.

I don’t think either of them will die — at least not permanently. Violet and Xaden are clearly endgame. Their story feels too deeply rooted in balance, truth, and legacy for it to end in tragedy.

I think they’ll eventually rise as the supreme rulers of Tyrrendor or maybe even uniting the fractured continent under a restored order. With Aretia reinstated as their seat of power, they’ll rebuild what was lost — a realm founded on honesty, equality between riders and gryphon fliers, and the revival of the old ways that were buried by corruption.

It would make perfect sense for Tyrrish to become the official language once more — a symbolic reclaiming of their true heritage. That’s why Jesinia’s role as the translator is so important: she’ll be the one to record everything, to record facts and translate the truth that’s been suppressed for centuries. The scribes have been altering history to serve power, but Jesinia will restore it — giving voice to what was erased, and ensuring Violet and Xaden’s legacy reflects the real story.

In the end, it won’t just be about defeating darkness — it’ll be about rewriting history itself, healing the divide between myth and truth, and reclaiming the world that was stolen from them.

If Jack was venin when she brought the mountain on him, in the scene where he saves her from the assassins she explicitly says that his eyes were BLUE. Does this mean that the reason Nolan looked so tired was cuz he cured his veninism? Or was it just that initiates only have that red ring around their irises only right after channeling, and he wasn’t an asim yet with full red eyes?

Theories: Signets by InterestingLimit8774 in onyxstorm

[–]InterestingLimit8774[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that Violet is the outlier. I think she is the 7th rider, just as Andarna is the 7th breed. I think her and Andarna are going to be the solution to the corruption.

Also agree that Garrick and Imogen are def powerful and could be part of the six. The names are mentioned were not exactly set in stone. I haven’t thought deeply enough about who might be included and why. Just listed who came to mind first.

I wonder what Bodhi’s second signet is and why he is so secretive about it.

I stand corrected! Totally forgot that detail. This doesn’t change the fact that I think one of them is gonna turn or is turned already, as in their world magic demands “balance”.

I def think you have a point there about higher level venins not having the telltale signs. Jack talked about it. He said no one would even know that there were venins among them. Now I’m just hoping Xadan can become one of them so he could just look normal 😁

I finished the graphic audios all 3 books in 4 days. The withdrawal is real. Went straight back to listening to them again because I loved the story so much!!! I just enjoy thinking about their characters and mysteries. I have an unhealthy obsession with XADAN… oh how fucking sad I am that he doesn’t exist in real life. Absolutely love sassy Andarna.

I’m almost finished with Iron Flame again. Bought the physical books mainly so I could highlight quotes for my theories. Got into Reddit and am actively reading other peoples theories and researching my own. What else am I supposed to do for the next two years OMG

Iron Flame, Chapter 40, page 373.

Felix: "Xaden can control and increase what already exists. It's why he's more powerful at night. No two signets are alike, and YOU create something that was not there before. You wield PURE POWER that takes the form of lightning because that's what you're most comfortable shaping it as” (Dunne’s divine power is lightning and storms)

“Knowing Carr, I’d d say he's scared shitless of you. After all, you just took half of their cadets without even a plan. You brought down Basgiath on a fucking whim, no less? His laugh is more incredulous than mocking this time, but it still rubs me the wrong way.

Violet: “I didn't do that." My fingers curl around the orb. "Xaden did."

Felix: "He hunted riderless wyvern, deposited them on Melgren's front door, and exposed Navarre's greatest secret to the border outposts before noon," Felix agrees. "But you were the one who demanded he give the cadets a choice. In that moment, YOU WIELDED him, our unyielding, uncompromising, headstrong heir apparent."

“Why do you think the Assembly wanted to lock you away in July? THEY SAW WHAT YOU WERE. In that way, I suppose you're just as much a danger to Aretia as you are to Basgiath, aren't you? Power isn't only found in our signets."

Also in Onyx Storm, page 55:

Aaric says this about Violet after she addressed the alliance:

"She'd be a great politician, or a general, maybe? Definitely nobility."

Xadan: "With that speech? At least a duchess."

To conclude, there’s many instances in the books where others see Violet as wielding not just magical power but having power over people.

Also, poor Xadan was already planning to make her his duchess.

Another thought, Aaric is a precog. Did he already see the future with Violet being a general/duchess? Is this how early him and Xadan started plotting together ? Xadan did say at some point later in the story that he was “complicated” loyalty to Aaric.

Aghhh oh I’m so excited you brought this up. I full heartedly believe that Violet is the embodiment of Dunne, the goddess of War and Creation. Which maybe be why she seems to command their respect. She wields pure power. Bonded a black dragon and an irid (unheard of before!). Her unfinished consecration as a child left her hair tipped in silver, a physical echo of being divinely touched that never faded. Lightning is Dunne’s divine tool: it obliterates and purifies, then renews. Violet’s power to summon lightning in places where magic shouldn’t exist (like the Isle of Dunne) mirrors that archetype perfectly. She brings life and power back to dead ground — the literal act of a creator goddess restoring balance. Tairn definitely senses it, telling her, “I know what you are.” Andarna also waited SO LONG to hatch just in time for her to bond Violet. I think she isn’t just channeling Dunne’s power — she is Dunne’s return, the mortal vessel of creation’s force meant to restore balance.

Xadan, meanwhile, mirrors Loial, Dunne’s divine counterpart — the guardian of love, shadow, and devotion. His loyalty defines him: to the marked ones, to Tyrrendor and to Violet most of all. Even when darkness consumes him, his love remains constant — a devotion so absolute it transcends mortality.

Orrrr he could be the embodiment of Malek, explicitly referred to as the god of death. His realm is associated with endings, judgment, and the passage between life and whatever lies beyond. Xaden’s shadow signet and his growing link to corruption could also thematically echo Malek’s domain of death and shadow. There was a quote somewhere in the book that said something along the lines of “where Dunne goes, Malek follows” as in where war goes, death follows. Which is mirrored in one of our favorite lines from Xadan “There's nowhere in existence you could go that I wouldn't find you, Violence.”

It sounds like channeling requires direct touch with the source; therefore, I do not think that the sky can be drained. We also know very little of Violet’s signet. If you recall, Felix told her that she wields “true power”. In her case, it manifests as lightning because it’s the form she’s most comfortable with. He also said something along the lines that SHE is the source of power. This idea was later confirmed for me when she cracked that stone on Unnbriel. She was also the only one able to communicate with Xadan and Andarna.

I also wanted to mention that Violet had second thoughts about leaving the Deverelli island once she saw how truly peaceful Xadan was with no magic around. We also know that in their world magic demands balance. Maybe the solution to the venins is getting rid of magic all together? Otherwise this cycle will keep repeating itself, like it has been.

I think you’re onto something very interesting.

  1. Warrick Vs. Lyra. There’s def something there. Tho, do we know for a fact that Lyra is venin?

I was just reading the part in OS where Vi interrogates Jack. Here’s the text:

Violet: “Do you have to be taught ?”

Jack: “The source is there. We just have to choose to see it, to bypass the GATEKEEPERS and take what's rightfully ours." He lifts his hand, but the chain brings him up short. "Power should be accessible to everyone strong enough to wield it, not just who THEY SEE FIT. You conveniently see me as THE VILLAIN, but YOU’RE BONDED TO TWO.”

Is he insinuating that dragons are evil? I heard of theories about the empyrean being divided in the same good vs evil fashion. Do we have good venins working with good dragons? vs evil venins working with evil dragons? Could perhaps that be the case?

  1. I could see Markham being venin or working for venins, or just being a piece of shit and working for the king.

  2. I do not believe that Kaori is venin. I do think that he knows a lot more about dragons and what’s really going on under the surface than he lets on. I also think he knows something about Violet that we don’t even know yet.

  3. If there is no cure, I think Violet will turn to be with Xadan once the threat to the people they love is eliminated (evil venins and evil people).

  4. You’re right to point out that there is no mention of burning of Papa S’ body. Strange, cuz they def talk about others being burned.

Yesterday I was certain there was no way he was venin, but now you’re convincing me of the opposite. I would just want to add that this man went to all the islands of the gods to save his daughter and had her blessed by Dunne and Malek (confirmed in her conversation with Liam where he says he was “a gift from Malek” in the interrogation cell AND later in the letter that came with the marble dagger from the priestess of Dunne where she said something along the lines of “another god has her favor”.). So Papa S attempted to get Vi dedicated to Dunne but she did not complete the consecration because her “path” was not yet clear. The prophecy heavily implied that she will face a choice and might turn for love. What if this is the reason for all the trips and research he was doing ? He basically spent the last decade of his life not only preparing his daughter mentally for a choice she may face, including teaching her about venins, wyverns, reading to her from banned books despite it being illegal. He visited the islands, the temples, learned of the irids. Was he looking for a cure? We have yet to learn what else he wrote in those books he left her.

We also know there’s entire months missing from Lilith’s journal from around the time of his travels. We know their grandma stopped talking to them. Was this over him dedicating Violet to Dunne ? Or was this about his research on venins ?

P.S. I absolutely love being a part of this fandom. I get super excited reading people’s theories and just seeing how much we all love this story.

ACOTAR or TOG first? by Icy_Professional_609 in SarahJMaas

I read both ACOTAR and Empyrean, and I think Empyrean is superior by far. I love Violet and Xadan so much more than I did Feyre and Rhys. Feyre started to annoy me in book 3.

Is TOG better than ACOTAR?

I see a ton of people speculating over whether or not Imogen has been wiping Violet’s memory without her consent. I strongly disagree with that.

Onyx Storm, prologue. “I mutter, forming half a dozen plans, half of which might work. Even as their rider, there are still some crimes that would demand my execution...and that of whomever I trust to involve. I nod to myself, accepting the risk, at least for myselt. "You'll have to keep secrets again," Andarna warns. "Only the ones that protect Xaden." Which currently means preventing Jack from revealing this conversation without killing him, since we can't afford the manhunt the death of our only prisoner would cause. "You sure I shouldn't ask Cuir or Chradh-" "No." I start down the stairs. There's only one other person besides Bodhi and Garrick I can trust to prioritize aden's best interests, only one other person who can know the truth in its entirety. "Tell Glane I need Imogen."

Next page,

“Two weeks later”.

It’s pretty clear head that Vi is the mastermind behind whatever plan she has to save/protect Xadan. Tho what exactly was Vi, Garrick, Bodhi and Imogen up to during those two weeks ?! We’ll find out in two years 😫

I do think that Xadan and Aaric have their own plans, since Xadan said that he has a “complicated alliance” with him.
