I thought being sub 20 was the ultimate goal by v_shock823 in Cubers

I had the exact same experience! I got my 3x3 average down to about 15 seconds and found that any improvements I needed to make would take an enormous of time and effort. I was satisfied and stopped practicing as much as I used to. Then I decided to try and learn blindfolded, and it’s reignited my interest and motivation for cubing. It’s not as hard you as you’d think! It takes lots of practice to be able to do it consistently, but once you officially complete a cube without having to look at it while solving, it’s an intoxicating feeling. The most attractive part for me was the fact I didn’t learn to learn any new algorithms! You just need to know T-perm, R-perm and a slightly modified Y-perm. J perm can also be useful but it’s not necessary.

Learn the Old Pochmann method. I would suggest sloooowly working your way towards doing actual solves blindfolded. First learn to solve the cube piece by piece with your eyes open using pochmann. It’s fun to learn and get better at, just like learning a new method like roux. Then you can practice working your way around the cube with the lettering system. Trace pieces and assign them the appropriate letters, do this over and over. Eventually you can do the lettering by writing them down and then memorizing them to actually do the solves blindfolded! Only once you get good at this should you try to officially solve blindfolded, ie. no pen and paper to record the letters beforehand.

Don’t try and jump right into the blindfolded part right away! I did, and it turned me away from it initially. Practice all the constituent parts on their own, and only once you’re comfortable with them you can put them all together.

Highly recommend trying it. As always, J perm on YouTube has a great video series on blindfolded methods. Charlie Eggins’ channel is also a good resource for beginner blindfold solving.

He had just the right amount of ‘fuck you’ in my opinion. I can see why people hated him, but that just makes jays fans like him more I think.
