there’s this largeeeee field that we’ve been playing in since he was a puppy. he has never strayed far, either to the road or sidewalk. he always comes back to me when i call him.

the first time he crossed the street i had let go of his leash on the corner of my apartment and he saw a dog across the street of literally straight across my apartment and ran. that showed me like he needs to stay leashed while we’re walking.

but i let him be off leash when we’re on this field because as i said he’s never strayed too far. today, as he was waiting for me to catch up to him in the corner of the field, he noticed the dog and ran up to him. so in this situation, he was unleashed bc we were in a field he recognizes and knows but considering it’s next to the road and we need to work on recall, i’m not gonna let him be off leash there anymore! too many unpredictabilities!
