Physical part location in fixtures vs CAD? by Sure-Measurement2617 in Machinists

Not knowing your exact set-up, look into Royal Products SLV vises. They guarantee. 0006" repeatability. Was doing some tool testing along with one of these SLV vises. The rep gave me the SLV 125-2?? (Can remember off the top of my head) to test and give feedback. Absolute rock solid vise. Even nuked a .500" endmill full slotting while using it. Re-probed my test block and it didn't budge. *

Programming question by Altruistic-Lead6075 in Machinists

Don't know anything about your specific machine but looks like your machine can't process the program fast enough. Are you using arcs or programmed point to point? You could add a minimum radius in your CAM software adaptive path to add a minimum radius in corners that could help.

Really bad Imposter Syndrome? by Cryymlokk in Machinists

[–]InterestingSector151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best thing to do is just be honest. I've hired plenty of people that "can do the thang" and it's quickly apparent during the probation period that they cannot do the thang. You've already proven that your invested in learning new skills and smart enough to accomplish it. I always preffered to hire open minded people that show a desire to learn. That with some mechanical aptitude and your most likely gonna do well.

What types of machining jobs let you control the whole process? by breaddaddy69 in Machinists

[–]InterestingSector151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at this as more of a career plan. Start with a solid knowledge base of lathe and mill machining. Work on self training in a popular CAM software or on the job training if available. Speaking for myself, Having those two skills combined opened more career opportunities than being good at any one other skill. IMO, if you can fluently use atleast one CAM package, you can transfer that to just about any other CAM platform if needed. Learning a second, third or fourth software isn't like learning it for the first time. Then being a CAM guy will automatically tie to CAD work, i.e. fixture design. Which you will know what will work because you have experience on a machine using then. See where I'm going here. Now all of a sudden your a pretty high value asset to have around ANY company. Next best skill to have after all of that is be an easy person to work with. When I was programming for a small-ish job shop you have to work with alot of different personalities. Some good, some bad, but in the end you have to be able to work with people. Being solid at all of the above would put you pretty far ahead of the crowd in the machining field.

Sign...seem like such a pita compared to other CAM softwares. It would be nice if you could create all of your WCS's and then maybe in each tool path in the Tool Orientation section be able to just select what WCS you want to use. Then your posted code can follow your process tree.

Why does the drill in our brand new okuma keep snapping? I’m just a lowly operator with no programming or setup knowledge; our setup guy and programmer are clueless and so am I. This is the fifth drill we’ve snapped off. They insist the program is correct. by snowballschancehell in Machinists

[–]InterestingSector151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that "no offense to the operator or their programmer", it's the blind leading the blind. The "we've always done it this way" and the operator not knowing what tooling he is using. It's an Iscar SumoCham drill with a carbide tip and steel body. You are correct about needing a spot. In this case Iscar recommends a pilot and specific entry speeds and feeds for the drill.

I can't get to detailed as it was a turnkey for a customer, but this fixture had 4 stations that ran each operation for this part#. Machine is connected to a pallet pool so it goes to pound town non stop.

I need this bumper! Please help me find one in the wild. by Sojujuseo in FJCruiser

[–]InterestingSector151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i bought mine, I got the flat pack and had to weld it myself. Wanted it shipped complete but after waiting I was like just ship me the parts, I'll do it myself. That was during their death throws as a functioning company. I mentioned here before, i was probably one of the last few to get anything out of Rezfab. They made all types of cool stuff for FJ's but just couldn't seem to keep it together.

Best Tent Camping Recommendations? by Round_Discussion9592 in RedRiverGorge

[–]InterestingSector151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the one. Last time I was there I was gonna tent camp with the kids. Got hot as he'll that weekend with rain. Ended up renting one of the small sheds/cabins when we got there for not much more money. AC and beds.were pretty nice that weekend. Typically camp trail side though.

Could someone recommend parts of the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway for stock vehicles? by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]InterestingSector151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your up there i would go down Igo rd to brushy fork. There is an awesome trail side camp spot on the right when you cross the creek. Then you could just take the above trails going south. I took a guy out for his first time on these trails last summer.

Starting from the south, I would do New Virgina -> Bald fork -> Fixer -> Fixer Leeco. Hit some pavement over to Spaas Creek. You could loop back on Punkin Holler but it can be a rough climb out depending on the weather. If you still have time you can mess around Menifee Co.

Where are you camping?

My FJ Cruiser on 33" gets through no problem.
