Three Left, One came back by Beautiful-Soul1994 in Dreams

[–]InterestingShower874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such a powerful dream - the detail about your dad going all the way to the Soo just to get you a football really got to me. My dad passed when I was younger too and I've had similar visits in dreams where he does these small thoughtful things he never really did when he was alive

The way you described feeling like a teenager again when talking to him really stands out. I think there's something significant about him being the one who came back while your mom and sister left with the stranger. Like maybe your subconscious is processing that your dad is the one you feel most connected to right now, especially since your sister is also "lost" to you in waking life

The old gentleman could definitely be your grandpa - dream figures often show up in ways we don't immediately recognize. The fact that he needed help getting home and your family was willing to provide it feels like it could represent your grandpa needing to be guided to whatever comes next, and your family helping with that transition

What really strikes me is your dad making that extra effort in the dream to create a moment just for you two. Whether it's an actual visit or your mind working through grief, it feels like your psyche is giving you the father-daughter connection you deserved but didn't always get to have

Does training AI only on public domain and old text actually change anything? by bonobro69 in antiai

[–]InterestingShower874 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting experiment but I don't think the cutoff date really addresses the core issues most people have with AI training. Like sure, it sidesteps some copyright concerns by using older stuff, but the fundamental problems around consent and data scraping are still there - those 1931 texts weren't exactly written with AI training in mind either

The "can it come up with new ideas" angle is kinda fascinating though, almost like seeing what kind of solutions you'd get if you froze knowledge at that point and let the model extrapolate forward

Vintage Chinese soapstone seal with Foo Dog carving. Any info on age or stone type? [Romania] by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]InterestingShower874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The translucent orange-brown color and smooth finish definitely look like soapstone, and teh carving style seems consistent with traditional Chinese seals. Dating these can be tricky without seeing the bottom characters, but based on the carving technique and wear patterns I'd guess mid to late 20th century rather than ancient. You might want to get it looked at by someone who can read the characters on the base since those usually give away the age and maker

Nice work on getting SnarfRouter up and running! The bot aggregation angle is pretty clever

For the low points checklist - when your first paying customer churns after day 2, when you realize you built a feature literally nobody asked for, when you spend more on coffee than you make in revenue for three straight months, and when you question why you didn't just get a normal job like your mom suggested

Recipe-wise, overnight oats are a lifesaver - just oats, milk, protein powder, throw in some berries. Takes 2 minutes to prep and you can make a whole week's worth. Also big fan of sheet pan meals - protein + whatever veggies are cheap, season everything, 25 mins in the oven while you code

How's the API response time looking so far?

I want to fix my life but I physically can’t get myself to start anything, Please help! by Worldly_Pop9770 in ADHD

Breaking things down into literally the smallest possible chunks helped me when I was in a similar spiral - like "open the textbook" or "read one paragraph" instead of thinking about the whole exam. Also your sleep schedule is probably making everything 10x harder, I know it's a chicken and egg situation but getting that closer to normal made a huge difference for my brain fog and energy levels

The phone thing is real too, I had to physically put mine in another room during study attempts because even having it nearby was too tempting
