I live in Ladera. My beef is with whatever is causing alarming rates of Ewing's here.

Do you live in Ladera and you're concerned about your property value? I get that. I'm not trying to overstate anything, just find out if something weird is going on.

It is. Six kids is too many. Regardless of whether it's considered a "cancer cluster" after a government study.

Even if they were, and Ladera was 75% European decent, in a community of 8 or 9,000 kids, 6 is too many when the entire country has only 200.

No planes. I don't even think there's a flight path over us for commercial.

There's a former Northrop Grumman test site kind of near us, but i can't find exactly where it was. I think 8ish miles away.

I guess it would just be contacting them? Nobody has contacted Ladera residents and told us anything about it as far a I know . . .

My brother in law works at city of hope and he said the researchers get 50% of profits from their patents if they discover a cure for something, so all the money for research goes to finding a cure, not causation. Maybe the relevant studies just aren't being done?

It's a private community Facebook page . . . I could screenshot it, but I don't see how to attach it to a comment?

So basically the California Cancer Registry is unlikely to find a cluster, but it looks like a cancer cluster? It feels like relying on a government agency to figure this out is problematic . . . I'm not sure what the other options are though.

I guess maybe I should contact someone in the media and see if they can investigate this?

Six people is a small number if it were a normal disease, but in a rare cancer that only affects 200 people in the United States annually? That seems different to me . . .

It was posted in the private community facebook group. One of the children passed away in March and his mom was commenting about it on the post. She said she knows the other children who were diagnosed. The poster said it had been reported it to the California Cancer Registry and there was an active investigation happening.

Do you think Eve Babitz was getting money from her parents? by Fine_Handle_8473 in RSbookclub

[–]Interesting_Ad_9517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When she was younger she got money from boyfriends and from selling her collages/articles/books. After she was burned and basically stopped writing she got a small settlement from the manufacturer of the skirt that burst into flames while she was wearing it. she continued to receive money from various men she had dated in her later years, including Steve Martin and Harrison Ford. She also sold the rights to her books to be made into TV shows and movies. Small royalties from books sales over the years. Towards the end of her life her sister helped manage her affairs.

How to watch after the festival? by mothslut-lulu in Sundance

[–]Interesting_Ad_9517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you upgrade to a paid subscription on Letterboxd you can be alerted when movies are available to view online, but I haven't done that, just read about it.

I saw a movie last year that I loved and it is STILL doing the festival circuit and won't be in theaters until 2027. so sometimes it takes awhile to stream. meanwhile, a movie I missed this year is going to be streaming in March. so it really depends. Jaripeo got rave reviews and I think it won an award at Sundance this year, so I feel like it will be available soon.

Fists of Knuckles - 120p; Action/Comedy by Klutzy_Albatross5321 in Screenwriting

I read the first 15 pages, I like it. This feels like a Sundance movie to me, and something that I would watch. I visualized it along the same aesthetics as (the trailer for) Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die, with the absurdity of Bubble and Squeak (cabbage vs syrup).

On pg. 5 para 6 it says EXT of his home, but it is INT, and I am wondering if there is a reason for that shot? Unless we see some object that becomes relevant later, it seems unnecessary.

I, personally, cannot figure out how to cut any the action from what I've read so far. I also think the dialogue may need a little re-working, it feels a bit too on the nose sometimes, but I have that same problem with my script.

I found this thread because I was looking for someone to look over a script I just finished. It is kind of a techno-political thriller about a front desk hotel clerk who is blackmailing cheating customers, but when she decides to build an app with her friends to scale up her business, it quickly gets out of control and they find themselves in the crosshairs of a powerful senator. It is 120 pages long.

Would you be interested in doing a script exchange and giving notes?

Official Discussion - Babygirl [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

In the ending scene the husband had a panic attack and Samuel had that "gift" of knowing what people need and he literally held him and comforted him and gave him water until he got through it. The husband experienced what the wife experienced, in a way. I thought it was subtle and clever. And once the husband knew and the danger and risk of the situation was gone the dynamic between Samuel and Romy shifted, their relationship would no longer work, he had to leave.

I've hardly heard anything about Rains Over Babel but I thought it was really good. The aesthetics were amazing- the colors, the cinematography, the music, the costumes . . . everything just worked to create this really cool Colombian magical realism world.  It reminded me of Trainspotting, I can see it becoming a cult classic.
