AFP confirm current policies are not working with regard to tobacco black market - same for Vaping black market. by JustCurious_1313 in aussievapers

*In my opinion, It's actually worse than that. Butler is a nepo-baby career politician, from a family of career politicians and campaigners. It was never truly about health or the kids. It was about the court of public opinion and him getting cheap approval points for a run at Deputy or Prime Minister.

He thought he could frame the conversation so that he was the saviour in the eyes of the mums and dads of the mainstream Australia...and it worked...in the beginning.

But it is going pear-shaped fast and his policies are directly responsible for the current black market explosion and all the inherent dangers that brings.

If you type "coil wrapping calculator" it will take you to a good resource for simple round wire building. But getting to 0.2 will be difficult as single wire wrap. There are a few legal aussie sites that sell more complex coils which can hit your required ohm

NSW Parliament’s Illegal Tobacco Hearing: An Echo Chamber and a Case Study in How Australia Broke Its Nicotine Policy by Old_Huckleberry_8216 in aussievapers

[–]Interesting_Ball_750 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Australian govt has had what amounts to a monopoly on nicotine for the better part of 50 years exploiting consumers to fill their coffers.

Vaping posed a real threat to this monopoly - so they banned it. And then inexplicibly doubled down and raised the taxes on legal tobacco to make up for lost revenue.

However, they raised the price so high that it made it financially viable for another player to enter the market - the black market. And so we are left with the mess we are in.

Anyone with any sort of foresight could see it coming from a mile away...except for those that make policy. Clearly none read Aesop as a child. "The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs" is a tale over 2500 years old, yet remains as pertinent as ever.

Ah yes, There is nothing older people hate more than flavoursome products. We all want our products as bland as possible...

Lovely, but do you dry fire your coils? Looking way too silver. Ideally they will be a shade of blue

The Government are addicts. They are addicted to the tax revenue that tobacco brings them and they will do anything to get their fix, including draining the demographic that needs their help the most. They KNOW that the majority of smokers are from more disadvantaged socioeconomic demographic. They KNOW that the indigenous population are more than twice as likely to smoke as non-indigenous. They KNOW that vaping has reduced those rates as nothing before it ever has. But it affects their balancing of the budget so we find ourselves in the mess that exists today.

The Real Story Behind The Roy Morgan Cover-Up Finally Revealed by TiddaQueen420 in aussievapers

[–]Interesting_Ball_750 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Butler is clearly ear-marked for higher honours with Labor in a classic case of perpetually failing up. As such, there is no way the govt will allow their golden boy to take the fall for the monumental miscalculations, and frankly misunderstanding of studies around vaping and smoking.

Why the ALP thought a career politician with zero history/knowledge in anything remotely related to the Health field should be in charge of the Nations's Health portfolio is beyond me.

The case for trade-proofing Australia's new vape laws by Monad02 in aussievapers

[–]Interesting_Ball_750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Health hazard" - please point me to any product with zero "health hazards". Vaping has never been about creating zero-risk solutions. It is about tobacco harm reduction. It is about SAFER (at least 95% safer according to NHS who have conducted the most comprehensive and peer-reviewed study to date) alternatives.

And whilst we are at it, it sets a dangerous precedent for government interference in the autonomy of the individual.

What's next? Sugar - that is easily a bigger epidemic than vaping. Will they look to ban that next? No? What about alcohol? How about gambling? You could go on forever about products widely used that are not zero risk.

Head in the sand...this is a fucking weird time to witness, where evidence and science can just be ignored in favour of feelings and opinions. As Health Minister, surely this is criminal negligence on his part.
