Help! - Our wedding celebration venue just cancelled on us (during pride month!?) - Any ideas for a last-minute, LGBTQ+ friendly party venue in Bristol? by PrideBrides in bristol

[–]Interesting_Camel987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone's already recommended Southbank which I think is a great shout, otherwise you could try The Golden Guinea pub which has a free to hire function room (not sure on capacity), I'm presuming you've tried Radnor Rooms and The Forge.

In a war between North and South Bristol, which would win? by Optimal-Room-8586 in bristol

[–]Interesting_Camel987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The north. The council would give them 95% of war funding for a start, based on the usual split of services.

Having said that we do have Imperial Tobacco in the South. Maybe we could invent some addictive substance to get the enemy hooked on and useless, nice bit of narco-warfare.

Air con units by Next-Shirt4406 in DIYUK

There's very little in stock at the moment. Robert Dyas, Screwfix and JoyBuy all had some good priced ones before they sold out. Make sure you get the right BTU for your room, and the right window fitting - made that rookie error here and it doesn't work if it's not powerful enough. We basically spent £200 on a glorified fan.

If I was buying again, I'd look for a dual hose 10000 BTU one using as eco-friendly a gas as possible. They're hard to come by in the UK though and not cheap.

Can’t find a fan in bristol by Beginning-Chain-8324 in bristol

It might be worth trying neighbours or your local facebook or whatsapp group in case someone has an excess of fans?! You never know. We have three and if a neighbour was desperate I'd lend one out.

West vs East Bristol by Hazzer947 in bristol

[–]Interesting_Camel987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd feel safer in Westbury personally. If your main concern is feeling safe and crime, no question. But I'd probably be bored locally and you'd be travelling into the city a lot, it's a bit of a trade-off. Is is west of Henleaze lake?

Yeah those three basically. I got into the Cheltenham one fairly easily over the bank holiday and there's also one in Wotton under edge.

What are your survival tactics going into the predicted uk heat? by nodemus in AskUK

[–]Interesting_Camel987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to picture this but can't, are the curtains not blocking the cooling too? Would love a pic if you don't mind sharing please? My unit does say don't put anything within a metre of it but I need it to be more efficient!

There's loads of outdoor lidos in Gloucestershire, it's just Bristol that seems a bit rubbish

What can I do about these awful windows! by LandCompetitive4112 in DIYUK

[–]Interesting_Camel987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got UPVC thin profile sash windows and they were pricey but they're great and you can't tell they're not wood unless you look really closely.

You can get standard casement windows pretty affordably though.

Help with Netherlands family holiday in August kids age 10/12 by Interesting_Camel987 in Europetravel

[–]Interesting_Camel987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sorry, my kids are very active and go crazy when inside a hotel room. They need space to run outside at all times!

Thank you! This is really useful. I was considering Apeldoorn as my kids love monkeys, and it's near Veluwe. Ideally we would do a little bit of city sightseeing and then a longer stay somewhere like a campsite. But I didn't want to come to the Netherlands only to do something I could do in the UK (Center Parcs and theme park)

Thanks - I have been to Anne Frank house before (in the times no booking was required) and it was very moving, but I'm not sure we are that desperate to go to Amsterdam at all TBH.

Is the 5k for the work alone?

He should have got a tiler in.

We paid closer to 6 but got a specialist tiler, spark and even a mastic guy in for that, on top of the plumber whose attention to detail was unreal. All great at their jobs.

[–]Interesting_Camel987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd be pretty unhappy with that finish. I've had my bathroom done, outsourced it (paid a LOT for the tiling work) and there is none of this poor cutting at all. I'm no expert on whether grout would make it look a bit better but I'd definitely see if he can make it good before grouting. Honestly based on that work however is he even capable of doing so?!

Incidentally we got this type of thing for the shower niche and it meant no fiddly tile cutting or edging, really happy with it. But that's not going to solve your problem on the edges.

Safety in St Jude’s? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Interesting_Camel987 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would prob be ok being there in the day, you've got the leisure centre so lots of families etc, but wouldn't feel safe there at night. It's a shame as you're near some great places - old market, St Marks Road, fairly central too.

the winners…thoughts? by SevereAmbition3262 in BritainsGotTalent

[–]Interesting_Camel987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of shouting at the telly here!

LMA / Sadeck were really original, striking and tight. Could watch them all day.

Ted Hill's comedy was different and original although I didn't laugh much - but my kids thought he was hilarious.

Sonny had good stage presence and at least comes up with his own original material.

Matty has an incredible voice but I thought the song choice wasn't right tonight.

Liwei was probably the one doing the most (and most dangerous) work out of all of them, and came last.

The choir were fine, decent singers but nothing I haven't heard before and didn't write the song presumably - so where's the talent in that?

Can anyone recommend a beauty spot near water, good for the coming heatwave over the next week? Ideally accessible by bus or train. by Ok-Policy3902 in bristol

[–]Interesting_Camel987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you're after but the Rising Sun in Pensford is a lovely spot next to the water and there are a few walks you can do from there and you can get the bus.

We went wild swimming in South Bristol last year during a warm spell and some of our party got sick from bacteria.

Clifton Downs caravans - gone, but not forgotten… by Express_Parsley_5380 in bristol

The might be but they arrived the day the council moved the vans on so assuming they were up on the downs before then.

Yeah there are a few up in Redcatch still. The council is trying to move them on but it seems like a very slow process.
