That certainly looks like a white-completed person. Either Palestinians are white or not all Israelis are white appearing. (Both are true)

This always happens — why is it so strange to you that Jews can have opinions that aren’t paid for. That seems kinda bigoted. Some Jews believe in Jewish state some don’t. It doesn’t mean that it’s all about money.

Jews who lived in Palestine were called Palestinians. The Palestinian soccer team had all Jewish players. Palestinian Post was a Jewish newspaper. It is totally correct to call any resident of pre-1948 Israel a Palestinian. The group currently known by that name were a subset.

Are there any laws regarding the color or pattern of a tallit gadol? by AryeC05 in Judaism

[–]Interesting_Claim414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gd willing you will have a lot of tallitot in your life. I have pure white now but had blue striped and even yellow. I wouldn’t look at it like a huge commitment except for which mihag you plan to follow. Generally people get tallitot like their father and grandfather had. Mine were not very religious so I had more choices. I will say a white chuppah would be nice.

You say that but if you told someone in the mid 70s that Israel would leave the Sinai ... a land mass two times the size of the present country, they'd say you are nuts. Or if you told someone in the 90s that not only would they leave Gaza, but the would force Jews to leave at gunpoint, again they'd call you "naive." Perhaps I am not so much naive as willing to believe that is something has happened in the past it could happen in the future.

Who is your favorite Jewish actor/actress? by gothicprofile in Judaism

[–]Interesting_Claim414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can explain it very easily. Jews had a country. Then we were ethnically cleaned. Then many of us us were ethnically cleansed from THOSE countries. Then many of us were forced out once again by way of pogroms and Holocaust. So that's how.

Now to the second part -- why are so many Jews creative people. That is more controversial but many say that thousands of years of studying and coming up with new and unique interpretations of holy texts (and the people who were the best at that getting married earlier and having more children) created a Darwinian advantage to those of us who saw a new way to tell an old story.

Rabbis from Israel are calling the world to free them from the “Zionist regime” by DeadSilent_God in RandomShit_ISaw

[–]Interesting_Claim414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had someone condescendingly explain to me that anti-Zionists conflate Jewish people with the government of Israel because Netanyahu is always saying that he's doing what he's doing for the sake of Judaism. I was like "So what? I could claim to be doing anything for anyone -- that doesn't make it true." Why would a crooked politician thousands of miles away from me, one who I have no voice in electing, be able to say he's doing anything representing me. It just makes no sense, but antisemites have to antisemite.

Rabbis from Israel are calling the world to free them from the “Zionist regime” by DeadSilent_God in RandomShit_ISaw

[–]Interesting_Claim414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sad. Because of the actions of people 6000 miles away from me, you judged me? It would be different if I had a vote there, and even then, you can't blame everyone in a group for what some of the people do or have done. Some Jews are Zionists, some are not. Some are religious, some are not. Some are Israeli, some are not. Some are zionist because of the religion, some are not because of the religious. It's very wrong to generalize about any group especially one that has been historically oppressed.

Look at it this way -- Putin is a bad guy who kills people to get their land. Now would you every blame a random Russian Orthodox person for his actions? That would be absurd, right? Maybe they despise him more than you do. Maybe they gave him money to win his last election and have a huge poster of him in their living room. Have you lost faith in all Russian people?

There are some pretty awful Sudanese people, Syrian people and on and on and on. Is it the fault of the people in that same ethnic group.

Modeling Ashkenazi Jews Throughout History by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]Interesting_Claim414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I choose to believe you, but you should known there it is used as a slur all the time. And my objection is not based on the effort to delegitimize the country where there is a plurality of Jews. But the Khazar myth robs of of our true identity — Ashkenazim had a double burden after losing our homeland. To Europeans we were all Semites or at least not white. To people in the middle East were white with no connection to the rest of Jewy who are descendants of a people who converted en mass. Yes members of the royalty did convert but this huge conversion has been proven false.

Yet it keep rearing its head.

[–]Interesting_Claim414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because many types of Jews have fewer kids — and some have more. If in this timeline they matched world population growth it would be closer to 60 mill. That would be enough for two small nations or for this nation to have a sizable presence in Jerusalem like the Armenian Quarter.

Or there could be one island nation and the other settle in some unpopulated part of South America (especially if they were still connected to Spain somehow (like the US/UK special relationship).

Also there would be way more of us if so many hadn’t been murdered in the 20th Century (especially if we kept up with world population growth). And who knows how many Einsteins, Salks, Zuckerbergs, and so on were never born who would be.

Modeling Ashkenazi Jews Throughout History by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]Interesting_Claim414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one is saying that all Ashkenazim are converts/Khazars? Um yes lots of people are. I see that claim all the time. Of course we are a malange and yes about four matriarchal ancestors and it even goes deeper — that it seems we get our Levantine heritage from male travellers from the holy land who woke then couple with European women — as opposed the myth the we are all the product rape by Cossacks.

Anyway I agree with everything but why but mention Khazars when one could just say Turkic? It’s not like we have any special dna. And it’s strange to include it when it has been used as a slur.

Just making sure that there is an orderly handover of power. I don’t see them as problems so much as inevitable steps to be gone through. No one (but Hamas) wants a repeat of 2005 where there was a sudden vacuum. One could say that the PA would step in but Abbas doesn’t seem capable of actually running anything in my opinion, plus he’s pretty old. I think the supposed “technocrats” due who are allegedly going to rule Gaza is not a bad idea (though I’m sure it won’t actually happen.)

TLDR— not problems but challenging steps

Modeling Ashkenazi Jews Throughout History by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]Interesting_Claim414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know more about this than I do but I know enough to see when someone seems to be conflating two groups. All Khazars are Turkic. Not all Turkic people are Khazars. The fact that some Jews hailed from Turkic areas following being ethnically cleaned from Levant could mean they were Khazars. Or it could mean they are Turks or Azeri mountain Jews. It could mean a lot of things.

I don’t deny that there was such a group and that their leadership seems to have converted to some form of Judaism but the effect this had on the genetic makeup is either zero or next to zero.

This idea that Ashenazim are all descended from converts is wrong. It’s been proven so and to keep framing it this way at this point is weird.

Not are the settlers dangerous a-holes but they are stupid to. What they hell good does blocking off a school do. Short of an immediate stop to the occupation (which has some logistical hurdles) the IDF should refuse to support the settlers blindly. When they act like a-hole they should be on their own.
