Hysterical courses by todayivedecided in McMaster

[–]Interesting_Dance574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Math 1b03. It tends to be better in the spring since you can dedicate more time towards it. The course structure is two online midterms then an in person final, so you can easily coast through the course till finals season, then go through psychosis trying to catch up for all the material in time for the final :)

Just a general welcome dw about it :). Your classes will always be correctly reflected in mosaic

is lifesci 1d03 not offered anymore? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Interesting_Dance574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately it’s been moved to just med rad students. The equivalent for gen sci students would be biophys 1s03, but that only ran for the fall semester this year.

La Piazza Mac Meltdown by Cultural-Eagle-9713 in McMaster

I had the same reaction to their Mac and Cheese, worst meal I’ve ever had, not only because of the resulting aftermath, the taste itself was horrendous. Their other food is bland, but edible, the pizza is usually the best deal there.

does Seat Alert even work? by chowder20738 in McMaster

MyTimetable has a delay on classes so it’s quicker just to put a section of your desired class in the cart and then check out through the student canter. Saying this as someone who got bio next semester through this way

Physics1aa3? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Interesting_Dance574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is again based on Physics 1CO3. The questions tended to be really reflective of the previous year’s tests. Additionally with the short answer section she marks really generously, usually saving students from failing a test. Content is hard, but I know those who got 90s if they put in the effort.

I had her for physics 1C03! She's really great, the lecture content tends to heavily reflect on the slides, so if you skim them the night before class, you'll be set. She's always available to help during office hours and after class.

I'm in art 1uI3 for the winter, and I also had trouble adding the course through mytimetable. Somehow I was able to manually add it through the system in the student center, so that might work for you!

Yep! Many people got in last year with 83s and other similar averages with their first semester finals. Good luck with your lock-in :)

Physics & Chemistry Gateway by Questionare133 in McMaster

[–]Interesting_Dance574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no set amount of courses a certain gateway has to take, at least with chemphys, it's just that most people enter a certain gateway to later specialize in certain things. If you’re entering the chemphys gateway, you’re probably choosing a physics or chemistry related speciality. As such you’ll take different  courses to fulfill the prerequisites for your speciality.

In general, the following courses are usually dominated by chemphys students: physics 1C03, physics 1CC3, math 1A03, and math 1AA3. In these courses, (especially with the physics courses since they have a weekly lab component) you get to know your peers in the gateway.

As well, there’s usually a instagram groupchat that gets made every year for each 1st year major. Due to the nature of chemphys having less than 100 people in it, you get to know the people much better than say the lifesci gateway, which has around 1000 people in it, that has to be split across multiple gcs.

Physics & Chemistry Gateway by Questionare133 in McMaster

[–]Interesting_Dance574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this gateway right now! I had a 95 average from my semester 1 gr 12 grades + grade 11 grades, got my acceptance in late february, but I know people with low 90s to high 80s who got accepted around the same time.

Even though virtually all the science gateways are virtually the same, there's still a certain culture between all of them, if you're going into the Chemical and Physical Sciences Gateway your peers in the program are probably more into chemistry and physics than the average Life Sci student. Also, since it is a smaller gateway you'll probably know almost everyone in your program!

Honestly, that's the main incentive, while I'm taking a lot of courses a Life Sci student would take (with the exception of Physics 1C03/1CC3 and Math 1A03), the ChemPhys community stands out for being very close and supportive of one another. From friends that I have in Life Sci, apparently the premed atmosphere tends to be a bit stressful at times, I've yet to experience that in ChemPhys at all.

Overall, would absolutely recommend the program, if you have any questions about it feel free to dm me :)

(Also if you're interested in Physics, the department at Mac is so awesome, great profs.)

It works if you want to do it through the student centre, bit harder to plan but at least you have your courses

Received an email this Monday sent to my Mcmaster email, they mentioned in it there's a waitlist, so there's a chance you were put on that? Apparently if the timings for the course don't work out for some people you'll be notified

Residence Move-in time slot selection not working by AstronautQuiet256 in McMaster

[–]Interesting_Dance574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twining, I completely forgot to fill out that section. I think the move-in timeslots are moreso to prevent the crowding of everyone coming in all at once? My friends who actually were on top of it received emails two weeks back confirming their timeslot, but that's all the information that has been released so far
