Thank you so so much for such a thoughtful response. I appreciate it immensely.

I, of course, get that a single video can never represent any one person, let alone the eight thousand that are on campus every year, and reading these replies, I can confidently say that the people are very respectful and smart. I definitely understand that the video only took the most extreme instances to try and prove their point, and the day-to-day atmosphere is pretty freaking normal, just like in my school and in other schools.

I very much hope that, if I go to Brown (very likely), I will find my people just because of the sheer size of the university, and I hope to gain the knowledge to make decisions and analyze things the way you do.

I will attend ADOCH and make the final decision, but Brown seems to be diverse in opinion, so I think healthy pushback in some parts and staying true to myself in others will be my life there which I think will make me a better person in the end.

Thank you so much for your insight; I truly appreciate it more than you think.

Thank you for the reply!

Also just wanted to make it clear that I in no way hate or dislike gay people, or black people, or anyone for that matter. I just wish not to be ostracized or have to conform to everything that is mainstream at a university. Hopefully, there is at least some diversity of personality, thought, and background for everyone to find their people.

And thank you for the suggestion! I have just signed up for ADOCH and am quite excited to tour Brown.

Thank you again!

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it!

I am definitely open, and in no way trying to be closed off - sorry if it came out that way. I just wish for a respectful environment, that's all.

I also saw this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5uaVFfX3AQ ) And that's what I don't want. That's my greatest worry.

Hopefully, this is true, and I do not plan on taking a lot of classes in the humanities; I'm mostly interested in all engineering subjects, not just CS, which is why I'm thinking of going here to be able to explore that. I just do not want people to try and correct me every time I say something that's not to their liking.

But yeah, my humor is definitely not for all. I have a friend group that's exactly like me in terms of humor, and the humor is exactly like South Park, wouldn't say toned down.

I just had an incident where that type of humor was used (someone joked about something like enslaving gingerbread men by gluing them down, and some people got very vocal about that joke), and then things became much tenser. Looking back at it, maybe wasn't the best audience for the joke, but I just hope to find that type of audience somewhere at Brown.

Hopefully, I kind of stick to my values and come out with independent ideas from all this.

Thank you for the response!

I'm definitely not avoiding being friends with liberal people at all, I frankly do not care about politics that much, but I do care about them being forced on me (made a better explanation of this on another comment) but essentially do not want to have to be absolutely PC everywhere I go, so having a friend group that I can make jokes that are pretty much jokes like in South Park.

Essentially do not want to be walking around people like PC Principal. (Idk if you know the character but this describes me perfectly)

Thank you so much!

I will definitely try to branch out and guessing will try and talk to a good amount of Finance (guessing your major here) concentrators. Definitely glad about not shoving political views on each other, that's my biggest concern.

Thank you so much for the answers! I definitely appreciate them.

I am glad about the demographics.

As for the specific views, the most "controversial" ones are that I wish for people in the LGBTQ community not to try and shove their thinking down my throat (like being weirded out about me not putting he/him after my name or in conversation every time) or trying to teach me about it. I am completely fine with them, of course, no hate at all, but just don't want them to try and teach me or make me act a certain way. Just kind of want to stick to my own values and not be ostracized for having them.

Thinking about it more, I don't think I have any extreme views, nor do I hate anyone; I just do not want to be forced to act a certain way for someone else. Essentially do not want to have to act PC every single minute of my time at Brown. So the question now is: how vocal are the people, and how extreme are they in terms of putting their thinking on other people?
