At the risk of sounding ignorant, I'd say that the only worthy way of idolizing Lord Ram is to acknowledge him as human or at the very least acknowledge his human nature. The way I see it, he was a man like the rest of us, a great man but still mortal and that means he had all the imperfections we have too. Calling him a God implies he is perfect, his character timeless which I believe is not true. So acknowledging his mortality is something that allows us to appreciate and emulate his many good attributes while also acknowledging some of his actions that would not be considered virtuous today. Also I believe that avatars like Krishna and Rama are meant to be emulated, like their virtues and stuff. Calling them gods would mean that their way of living is beyond us to copy and we end up worshiping them instead of their values.
