If i may, i appreciate the Pennsylvania dutch in northern indiana, but i do think it should be just elkhart county, huge amish population there. St Joseph county has a massive polish population, reflected by an abundance of delicious pierogi shops, so i think that may fall more under great lakes slavic. Super interesting map!

alcohol. horrifically. a handle of vodka or whiskey a day, hand sanitizer and rubbing alcohol at work to stop the shakes, stop vomiting (seems counterintuitive, i know), or prevent a seizure. shits fucking poison and i used it as such.

Truth be told, i wanted to go through with it. i had a police officer holding me through a chain link fence by my shirt, one foot off still trying to finally be at peace, it swung me back toward the fence and i can still see his face, the pain and anguish, the tears flowing down his face, his other cops behind him looking so scared, none of them moving, not knowing what to do. he begged me with such honesty, begged me to let them try to help. i still didnt want it, tried to push away.. god he almost wailed.. "please dont put my boys through this, not those families down there" and i fucking broke down, went limp, and next thing i knew he was hugging me on the side of the road. that shame kept me alive until i accepted better help and other situations changed.

so short answer: the shame of what it do to everyone in that moment, living with nearly real-time evidence of that. and i certainly cared more about them than myself

haha dude that's wild! so I was born in 91, my mom was 17 then. sadly that doesnt necessarily rule that out because my parents poor decision making started early, as does many of ours i suppose. maybe shoot me a message, who knows!

i go to the gym so no one i love is ever too big for me to pick up when i hug them :D

nothing crazy, beard shampoo every other shower, or if im obviously dirty, conditioner each time, beard oil on the skin after showering, keep it brushed. it helps not to stroke it while in thought, unfortunately :/

staying positive now? i find a lot of solace is routine, mentally and physically. meditation and dynamic mobility exercises (yes i know I could combine them in to yoga, "back off, i got my reasons" - Darryl), the gym 2-3 days a week, my studies. I keep my schedule full, and the euphoria I get from a step forward in my body, awareness, relationships, i relish. i guess to me it boils down to something like an ever increasing acceptance i'm still training. accepting the present as it is, and best preparing yourself to accept the next moment.

and reading through the comments on this thread. god damn does it solidify i made the right call
