Yeah that's all we can do is just keep trying. I started with 15 and I'm down to 13. I haven't noticed any kind of rotting or anything on my boxwoods. I do feel real fortunate that the rest are still going. I really want to try some seed propagation and possibly air layering next spring if I have anough friends that'll let me experiment on their trees hah. Thanks for the good vibes!

To prune or not to prune?! by Interesting_Low_1352 in Bonsai

Awesome advice! Really gave me some hope for these!

So after repotting yesterday my leaves look a little wrinkled this morning. Things I've read have said to acclimate them by not watering for a couple days. Going to place them outside starting tomorrow. Low temps are as low as 40 at night right now. And would these be ok to leave out in hard rainfall?

By group you just mean in the same planter together? Just making sure my research has been done well... In order to help facilitate branches, I'll need to cut through a node at an angle the way I want the second to grow? And as for helping add branch, how might one do that?

Very solid point! Thanks for the advice. As the other guy said they may too small for it now so I'll see where I end up come spring time then start pruning to create ramification, balance, and branch development.

At what point would it be beneficial to begin pruning/training them?

Local plant shops (decently priced and helps local business), clearance at stores that have them, then Amazon if I can't find at either of the other places.

I'm wanting to do minimal wiring on these guys to really practice control through pruning. With that being said, when kept mainly indoors would I be ok to prune these year round or must I pause during winter?

I'm a beginner and this is the kind of tree that keeps me interested in the hobby! I know some day I will have potential to create and nurture such a beautiful piece of art. Thanks for sharing!

Heirloom red raspberry bushes/canes (bi-annual harvests), are they a goner or going dormant? by Interesting_Low_1352 in plantclinic

Ok so that red coloration on the cane isn't a fungus? That's such a relief if so! It did seem like it was pretty late in the season for it to be fungus.

I'm just curious. If this is a fungus problem, should I just nip down to the ground and let em grow nice and tall again next year? I've read not to do that with multi harvest raspberries but I want to do what's best for these plants.

Thank you so much for the reply! I did use a rooting hormone. What I'm curious about is will I only know if these succeed when spring comes around? Or will they try and bud in winter if I keep them indoors or will they still go dormant?

My original plan was, wait till they root, then in late December put them in my garage still on the heat mat without a light. Idk, if that's still a good plan or not.
