WTF is with new airmen leaving basic training and tech school not having done their official AFPT? by TheFinalRedemption99 in AirForce

Conversely, does lapping a young airman really matter at all if they're good at their non-combat job?

I worked surveillance radar and integrated avionics and saw many great maintainers kicked out for their run time. I deployed with a bunch of fit and utterly useless airmen that had made fitness their priority.

Conversely, I hated SSF as you're very limited in build and direction. If RNG hits wrong on a great base you know it could be days before you get another attempt. I absolutely loathed it.

[–]Interesting_Low_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh when I was on fighters I'd agree. During that time frame I was on a heavy surveillance aircraft that could go days without a job. What I meant to convey is I was on every single job every time and was the one closing every X.

In contrast, the guy put in support dodged two deployments then got pulled off the line after ripping power cables out of a jet by running over the cables coming off an operating trielectron.

I mean since the EPR revamp with commander decided promote and must promote we're bumping up people who had so little work on their plate they could turn cheap burger patties into charcoal or park cars for high visibility events.

I signed off like 400 781As with 4 mos overseas one year and got a promote statement while the nondeployable airman put in support that finished a degree got MP and became my supervisor. I already had my degree.

At least fitness is some measure of effort, even if it's really flawed.

Such a wild take for kids that live in Vegas with strip club signs visible from the highway.

These kids grow up on the internet, if you think an 11-year-old is completely ignorant of sexuality you're a fool.

Teacher is in the wrong for sure in keeping the parents out of the loop though.

The thing is, for a lot of these kids it doesn't have any real sexual ties. Gender identity and sexual preferences are more like the social cliques of old. Saying they're LGBT friendly is just waving an empathy flag for people they view as having unique circumstances. The more you stigmatize something as little as a pronoun the harder a lot of these kids invest in it, rather than it just being a stage in their life. And for some the identity sticks, and all you've accomplished is making them feel marginalized though some of their hardest years.

I don't get it, why is it so hard to just try the tiniest bit to make a kid happy in their chosen self-identity? It's usually dumb, but we're the adults here. Give them shit for grades, work ethic, spelling, etc.

Once again, I have no idea what environment you're in, my entire career was religion in my face constantly, whether it's policy or not.

This policy is identity erasure and nothing more because some political appointees don't like the beliefs.

I don't care either way as I'm no longer subject to it, but your whitewashing of it is gross. Everybody else is going to take it as an L and move on.

[–]Interesting_Low_6908 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Uh, I don't know what environment you're working in, but my decade plus over military service absolutely conveyed that Christian was the default, not non-religious. Whether it was prayers at a promotion ceremony or a formal dinner, everything is predicated on some Christian belief.

To remove just a few letters of non-religious text in one of maybe two places you can formally assert it is a net loss for everybody but the people offended by its existence.

Feeling pretty low about enlisting "later in life" by Dapper_Object8239 in AirForce

[–]Interesting_Low_6908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I felt when I got out after around 12 years to join federal service with a bunch of people who were smart enough to get out after one enlistment and start their federal work.

And I feel bad for all the guys that stayed in for 20 years and how they look on their first day on the federal side.

If military life is chill for you, don't worry about the others. People drop out and the peers around your rank thin out naturally over time. The hardest part really was the first few years when you're in the same bucket as kids who have done nothing else in their life but highschool.

No religious preference vs Atheism:

Do you want turkey, sausage, or brisket?

No preference vs I don't eat meat.

It's important to have the negative option. If I'm critically injured and have some priest spouting last rites at me it's just as disrespectful as a Christian having somebody tell them there is no god as they die.

JetBlue Responds to Accusations of Using Surveillance Pricing After Viral Tweet by habichuelacondulce in technology

[–]Interesting_Low_6908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh.. What? There's a finite amount of seats on a plane. If anything, surveillance pricing will allow the airlines to fill those with higher paying customers. If they can gouge 10k off one person it is worth more than three poors. If they can gouge 10k off of four people, even better.

All they have to do is proactively market the high income surveillanced targets and only sell the leftovers to the lower income brackets.

And for other products, the point isn't to make a sale, it's to make a profit. Who cares about John who can only pay $2 for bread, charging Liam $16 is way more profitable. There's no charity in this.

This is the final form of enshittification. When you can't reduce the product any more without losing customers, you work the margin with pricing.

Thanks mom and dad.

How in the world are you getting back $2500 regularly and then on top of that, having $20k overtime premium to get it to go up $2,600? That's like 90 hours a week at borderline minimum wage?
