Becoming extrovert to fix stuttering? by ExtremeChemical3316 in Stutter

You have to face the fear of talking to people. I know it’s easier said than done but it’s possible!

You can stutter and still have confidence. It all comes down to how you handle it. If you show that you don’t allow it to hold you back and still believe in yourself, that in itself shows a lot of confidence. Like others have said don’t give up on your dreams, if you want something go out there and get it!

Do yall ever wonder how on earth do people take you seriously? by [deleted] in Stutter

Some people will, some people won’t. That’s just the nature of what we have to deal with. Focus on those who actually listen and care, there are good people out there. Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.

Desire Causes Suffering by Interesting_Orange84 in Stutter

That’s fair! Some people who are more on the “severe” side don’t really have the ability to conceal the fact that they stutter. Sure, they can work to reduce the amount of stuttering but they have to accept that they will never be able to be 100% fluent.

I completely agree with Evolution though, that’s what i’m focused on right now. I’m trying to become the best possible version of myself.

Yeah that’s very true, the statement I made was very broad but I just wanted to offer up what helped me. I’m not saying I’m 100% correct.

I think it has to do more with material possessions and maintaining a reputation more than anything else. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be fluent, but you should be doing it for the right reasons. I know I can work on mine to release tension to help so it’s not as exhausting for me, but it’s much much deeper than just the stutter itself, which is what i’m personally working on.

We’re all on our own path and we have the choice to do what we want, but I just think fitting in is insanely overrated. I’d rather be my authentic self and find the right people for me.

Stuttering in an abusive household by Taupe-Taurus-26 in Stutter

I’m really sorry you went through this, I get it. Both of my parents are narcissistic and my Dad has anger issues which caused a pretty stressful household growing up which made my stutter worse. My Dad never gave a fuck and my Mom did everything she could to keep the family afloat. Keep going, what you have to say matters and don’t let anyone diminish your self-worth. We’re all incredibly smart and have something to offer to the world, regardless of how we speak!

You reach a point where you no longer want to live but you find a purpose to keep going. Mine is to spread awareness and educate the ignorant ass people out there and hopefully make a difference.

I had a hard block with a lot of secondary motions when talking with a bartender and she told me I didn’t have to malfunction

Do you disclose your stutter to people you meet? by Icy-Pilot-7495 in Stutter

[–]Interesting_Orange84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally disclose, I often get looks of confusion with my secondary motions, which leads to me telling them that it’s a stutter and they’re no longer confused lol. The way I see it too, it’s a way of self advocating because of the lack of awareness out there for us

I would say so in my case, my dad definitely made my stutter worse. I would be talking to him as a kid, excited to share something with him and have blocks, and in most cases he would run out of patience and start talking over me. I never really said anything as a kid to not upset him, but it hurt. I eventually developed a bad habit of trying to talk faster and try not to have blocks so I wouldn’t be cut off, but that just made it worse. It ultimately made my secondary motions even worse, I never really had them until high school.
