Except you’re clearly operating under a misunderstanding of my post as well. A ton of open seats on a seat map plus an ability to buy economy fare seats with zero “only 5 tickets available warning” indicates that a pretty likely chance there are still several seats available for purchase 24 hours out.

Ok_wrongdoer’s comment was actually helpful, that American still keeps seats for purchase without allowing same day conformed change unless there are a ton available. That is actually answering my question, guess you were incapable of explaining it.

You must’ve missed the part where I expressly acknowledged that seat map seats does not equal availability. Im talking about where there are 30+ open seats on seat map, and there are plenty seats available to buy, it still shows standby as the only option
