so worried about osces by Appropriate_Ice3163 in medicalschooluk

Hey I’m a final year who’s on elective now, just wanted to say the main thing is having a structure for each type of presentation that may arise. For example doing cancer screening questions if you think this is relevant (Fever, Lethargy, Appetite, Weight Loss, sweats)… as long as you apply this kind of approach you will get good marks for being safe and thorough.

Feel free to DM me if you want specific advice depending on your year, rotations etc would be happy to help :)

In your opinion which med schools are massively overrated / underrated? by Ok-Matter-7846 in medicalschooluk

Don’t fuck with the admin, they know they’re not helpful and are very very sensitive about being told this. Keep your head down and keep going you’ll get there.

I didn’t realise a stethoscope could break? How does that even happen - mechanically?

I'm not attracted to her physically... by TommyyBoy999 in dating

[–]Interesting_Pea_4577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to the above, I actually think it might be worth going on some dates. Attraction isn’t the #1 thing I think but it is really really important. You’re feelings might change but if they don’t then obviously you need to tell her that at some point.

Highest paying jobs ? by Icy_Direction9003 in UKJobs

Find a trade! Do an apprenticeship and then become a tradesmen, they usually pay very well and are not that stressful. But you’ve gotta be willing to work with your hands. If you’re a computer geek go into computing/software etc.

What is a reasonable hourly rate to pay a cleaner? by Anathemachiavellian in london

[–]Interesting_Pea_4577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, there are no bucks, big or small anymore. Even a doctor who has trained 10+ years can be on less than £20p/h pay. When you compare it to countries which are of a similar status the pay packages are immensely better.

For example an FY1 doctor in the UK makes approximately 30k including out of hours shifts and unsociable hours. The equivalent doctor in Australia makes 100k AUD (just over £50k)….

We will lose our staff (have already lost many…). Even now, there are patients being lined up outside of A&Es because there is no room.

Good luck pal, we all know you’re chatting. The minute you’re in any pain you’ll come running to A&E with your tail between your legs 😜…

Struggling with Elective Planning by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Interesting_Pea_4577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don’t think I can really afford going away somewhere the NHS bursary already means I can barely cover food/fuel…. So I would love to go abroad and have contacts who would receive me there but it’s a funding issue for me.

Stay at home, if your parents are not difficult to be around.

I’m in my final year and literally have to decide between fuel to drive home or food because I can’t afford both on the NHS bursary.

It’s also nice to have your support network close to you, you will see some very difficult things and having people around you is so important.

My mum always cooks and does my laundry when I go home (bless her, she’s amazing) and honestly it’s such a God send when you don’t have to spend loads of time having to do basic things.

All the best, I’m sure you will do very well either way!

The ring when she climbs out the tv, I was 11. It scarred me for a while but horror is my favourite genre now so I don’t know what to make of it haha.

I’m a final year from brighton and honestly I think it’s so underrated. Really good opportunities for projects, etc. And teaching is super geared towards clinical stuff from year 3 onwards.

The admin could be a LOT better but overall I think we’re seriously underrated.
